Whether Obama likes it or not, Afghanistan is HIS war now...

It's been over a month now and Prs. Obama is still "thinking" about whether he wants to listen to Gen. McChrystal and send more troops to Afghanistan or not.
The basis of his indicision has less to do with the generals on the ground though. The fact is, he has never figured out what he wants to accomplish there. While he was a Senator (and a candidate for president) it was easy to simply speak out against Bush without having to make any decisions about it one way or the other.
But Sen. Obama always considered Afghanistan the "real" war on terror. He said that Bush diverted attention and assets from Afghanistan in favor of Iraq. Now that Afghanistan is HIS to fight, he doesn't seem ready or willing to do much.
It is important for him to listen to the commanders on the ground, but before the commanders can decide what they need to accomplish the mission, they need a mission to accomplish.
So far, Obama has been too stupid, inept or scared to make any real decisions. He did send more troops a few months ago, but what was to be acomplished that needed more troops?
What are Obama's goals for the war in Afghanistan? What is his definition of victory? If he can't come up with answers, he might as well just surrender and bring the troops home.
Personally, I hope he gets his head out of is butt soon and decides to BE the commander in chief instead of just wearing his brand new Commander in Chief suit.

am sure you are right to say obama should fight the afghanistan, but one thing am thinking here may be somehow contradicting to your own opinion, simply because i want a different world where you and i can live peacefully, am of no doubt that U.S.A has all it take to ruin the opponent at their ease. however i want us to realize this that we all of one father who is our God, "parated2k" am sending out an apology unbehalf of your opponent that U.S.A should please bring the misunderstanding to an end so we can all live in a free world. i love you, i love the world. I love lotting.

War has been a part of humankind since we existed on this planet. It will never stop. It will never be less cruel and it will certainly bring more and more profits to the states who "stage" them. However, regardless of which countries are taking part in the confrontations, soldiers and human lives will be lost. AND THIS is the sad part. People who joined the military because they had no other choice and people who aren't actual combatants suffer from them more than we, civilians, can imagine. Do you think, they'll stop the war because of that? Well, I don't think so. Petrol and usually money have always been more important to governments than human lives.

I agree on this one. He asked to be commander in chief. So now that he is he needs to do the job. Make a decision and go with it. This indecision just shows why you don't put an inexperienced person in charge of something.
Would you put someone with no business experience as the CEO of a company? Would you let someone be a doctor who never went to medical school? Then why put someone in charge of our military that has NO military experience and/or war stragy training? It never made sense to me.
YOu would also think that sense he does not have any experience in the military or war that he would listen to his generals who do have the training and experience to know what to do. Why is he second guessing them? It is not like he knows more than they do or is in any position to second guess them.

You forget, Obama, Pelosi and Ried WOULD put a person with no business experience as CEO of a company... in fact, they would let them control business in general. They also want to put people with no medical experience in charge of medicine. They would also put someone who can't seem to pay their taxes in charge of the tax code.

oh I know I know. As I have said...common sense is not that common...especially in our elected officials.

Don't ever think you 'll invade someone's country and beat them hands down. I think america has lost the war, it's just hard for them to admit. You can only win by another hiroshima, as for sending troops, it won't help. Just admit your failure and pull out.

Sadly there is a little truth to this, but the loss is not a military one it is because our country has a 4 year attention span (due to election cycle) The US can make this a sucess or a loss, but they have to be willing to commit to winning.
Unfortunately we have put a leader in the Whitehouse with no experiance in charge of our military and he is unwilling to take the risk it takes to win, but doesn't want to lose politically. So he is standing there doing nothing which is worse than accepting defeat and turning over Afganistan to the Taliban.

This isn't about whether we have won or lost, it is about Obama and his apparent lack of ability to make a decision about the war. He has always supported the war in Afghanistan, so why can't he BE the Commander in Chief he asked us to make him?

I don't like it because I feel it's for show.
As his administration, Obama leading the charge, bashes Fox News for unfair talk-radio-like media, they're relying solely on favorable coverage from other networks that have previously and still now champion presidential policies and nearly every policy that isn't from the Republican side of the aisle.
Since Obama took over, Afghanistan has become more and more deadly for our troops on the ground. But instead of the press holding the president accountable for this, which is very rare, they have latched onto Obama's "planning" and are now championing his time taken to make a decision.
Some are praising him for not acting too quickly. Some are insisting that Obama is doing the right thing by waiting. And I'm positive that Obama would rather bask in this glow for a while than to risk having the media turn on him as they did Bush.
And this is why it makes me so sick to my stomach. He's pandering for the press here. It's like he's trying to avoid negative press from his usual favorable minions until the smoke clears here at home.
This is due to the fact that he chose to fight two wars! He waged war against EVERYONE in America not toeing the same line as his administration, and now he cannot risk being wrong in one or he loses both.
While we might call it being indecisive and inexperienced, his beloved media will call it wise and the sign of a true leader that he takes week after week to either say yes or no to his general's request.
Obama is the most political president we've ever had. Just bite the bullet and decide already. Seriously, how much more thinking needs to be done? If it's not enough by this point, I don't see how it will ever be.

As the say, Get busy winning or get busy losing, but don't leave the boys out there in the middle getting shot at while beurocrats decide which way they should run.

I tend to agree with you.
we've sent out troops into this place, now, we either give them what they need to safely do the job we sent them to do, or we bring them home!!!
there is no middle ground here....
anyone who takes that middle ground loses the "oh, but we care for the troops" bit...
we are endangering the men and women we have there now if we don't provide the help that they've asked for....that isn't "caring for our troops!"

I am an Obama supporter, but if there's one thing that scares me, it's his inexperience. (Or what seems to me, anyways.) I personally believe that a war like this should really not be fought with brute force. We need to train more Afghan troops, for sure..I think Obama's dilemma is complete indecision.
Anyway, I am running off about 3 hrs sleep in 48 hrs. I hope my post makes sense.
