How many operations per second (on average computers) can computers these days do? And does that compare to the first computers?

the most high end pc can churn out 5GFPOPS (Giga Floating Point Operation Per Second)
the most powerful super computer can churn out more than 50 GFPOPS
in the olden days when computers were new to the earth, they could calculate one problem at once. they couldnt mutitask.
however, the normal pc is not to be blamed because it is equipped with max of 2 quad core processors where as a super computer can have 50 of them all running together like a beast
