How many of your have actually travelled outside your country of origin or even out of your home state?. When I returned from my first trip abroad my brother said to me....I see you went abroad and came back a broad. So much for chit chat. I am presently retired and living in Portugal. I have lived and worked in Mexico, Spain, The Dominican Republic, Bolivia, Ecuador, Colombia and Vietnam. I have also visited Panama, Peru, Germany, France, Nepal, Cambodia, Singapure, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Hong Kong. In addition I have travelled in or through 46 of the 50 states. Those not visited are Montana, North and South Dakota and Alaska (altho I did step into the airport at Juneau). I also stepped into the airports of Calcutta, Bombay, Televiv, Rome, Guam, Manilla and Taipei. Can anyone top this?

I couldn't possibly top that if I lived to be 100. You must have seen an awful lot in your travels. I've only been to about half of the 50 states, Canada, Mexico and The Bahamas.
One of my sisters has been to Sweden, Norway, Venezuela, Columbia, Ecuador, Greece, Italy, France, Singapore, Hong Kong and at least half of the 50 states. She was able to travel a lot before she married and financially able to travel a lot after she married. Lucky lady!

Well, I was fortunate....most of my travel was paid by the taxpayers. The places visited were at my expense but I was earning good money at the time. That's why I always tried to encourage young people to include such courses as International Relations, Political Science, and a language, preferably French and Spanish. A degree in any major will get you in but you get ahead faster if you have studied the above. It's easy to get into the State Department but only a selected few get chosen for Foreign Service...especially above the secretarial or clerk level. I'm sure there are some people who have travelled more than I.....I just used the can you top this to spike interest....not to show off.
Appreciate there response.

What a great idea to pass on to younger folks. I hope many of them listen and take you up on getting into the foreign service field. You have led a very interesting life. Would love to hear more of your stories, too.

I had a ball the 16 years I spent overseas. Also enjoyed working in Washington. However, there are many more people with more interesting stories.....like those I left behind when I left Saigon. One couple, dearest friends, was on the next to last helicopter out and then spent three or four weeks on the aircraft carrier before they reached home....while I was home with my mother and grandfather watching the events on TV. It can be a lot of fun and especially great experience. Tnx for coming back.

Not out to top you but I do enjoy travel. I have traveledonly to Canada, Mexico, Japan and South Korea. My visits to South Korea were for teaching English. I got to understand the people by living with a family for a couple of months. It is a great way to see a country and to enjoy meeting new people.

Not to worry....I'm having trouble uploading images too. I wasn't really looking for anyone to top it....was actually hoping someone could. Just used it to lure people in. I know the feeling of living with families...I practically lived with a Mexican Family altho I had my own apartment across the street. I learned Spanish much quicker, I think. The same held true when I returned to Portugal...I lived with a family of three. Sure helped me pick up the language and get rim of my Spanish accent. I believe that more Americans should and live and work outside the USA so that they can get a knowledge and feeling for different cultures and traditions. I honestly they would change their attitude toward "foreigners", especially those living in the States. I have had many foreigners in the counties I have visited or lived in tell me that before they met me they didn't like Americans. I explain to them that when he meet or see Americans outside their native habitat they are seeing a different breed of cat and that back home they are just like anyone else in the world. I don't know what it is that make some Americans act the way they do when they are guests. Appreciate your joining the discussion.

Don't think I can top that. Only been to 6 other countries: England, France, Belgium, Holland, Germany, and Canada.
I'd like to visit all 50 states someday. Hey, I'd count Alaska since you did actually touch the ground there.
