I've been hearing a lot of bad things about seamen. They say that they will not make good husbands because of the nature of their job. They say that they are never faithful to their wives or girlfriends. They have a woman in each and every port they go. Do you have any reactions on this?

I was once a seaman of sorts, well I was in my country's Naval Reserve. I have a lot of stories to tell about my days at sea! But I think it depends; there are all sorts of seamen. I think this is a bit of a myth and a legend that seamen are this way. Many professions have myths attached to them, but they are not necessarily so. Seamen are like every other type of person, there are many varieties.

Tnx for responding CarlHalling. Yes, probably you're right. It really depends on the guy if he wants to be like that. People shouldn't be judged by his or her profession alone. We should not take it or even speak of it in general.
Have a nice day!

Seafarers love their family a lot. The Job of seafarers s not tht easy.. First of all like people think, seamen cannot get down in every port.. They rarely reach the land and even if they get 2 go inside the port, they wil get some 2 hrs or 3 hrs time only. Mostly seamen work for 24/7.. Even if they get rest, they wil get only for 4- 6 hrs of sleeping time.. and anytime their room alarm will wake them up for an emergency..
Im a seamen's wife.. ive heard my relatives passing comments'he's earning in lacs, no worries 2 him'.. ah!! will anyone pay u a dollar for free??? yes my husband s getting paid so many thousand dollars, but u wil never know his pain of work and mainly his pain of leaving his family.. Seafarers are more attached to their families bcoz they only know the pain of missing their family members.. Only the best man can go 2 sea and only the best gal can be with the best gal.. I love my husband a lot.

I really do not think that people should be allowed to make such screaming generalisations about people. I do not believe that every seaman has a woman in every port or are unfaithful.
My dad was a seaman and although my parents are now divorced it was not because of either one of them cheating on each other.
I would not listen to idle gossip and tittle tattle about someone. If you love someone and know you can trust them, why not marry them? If you are sure that you are going to be with someone forever then marry them and don't listen to extreme generalisations.

Thanks for posting your comment on this. People really differ from one another and it's not good to just rely on hearsay and speak about them in general.

Yes, I think you have a point here. We should not just rely on hearsays and must not believe those people who speak ill of other people in general by just the nature of their job. Thanks for responding. Happy mylotting!

What I mean here is, we must not believe those people who speak ill of other people just by knowing the nature of their job. We should not make such comments and generalizations about them.

being a seaman is just a nature of their job, and i don't think being a womanizer will go with it. my husband is a seaman. i've known him for like 6 years before we decided to get married. i was filled with apprehension at first because that's what i heard, they have girls in every country they dock. but my marriage prove it wrong. my husband have waited for me all those years,he pursue me and never give up on me,until we got married. i think anybody can do womanizing even if he is not a seaman, it is his conviction and the measure of his love for the family that makes the difference. before, i am affected when i heard those humiliating stories about them, but now that i have a seaman husband, i don't easily believe on those, not unless i have an evidence that he's doing it. it is just sad because amidst their sacrifices to give the family a comfortable life, that "womanizer" title would go with their work. it is really unfair for those seaman who have stayed faithful for their wife.

It is not right to judge anybody because of his job. The faithfulness and sincerity of the person can never be measured by the nature of his job. It is all depends on the individual. Well actually it is you who can really answer that question. You certainly know the real man in him.
