Have you ever had a mean or unprofessional boss?

I have had my fair shair of unprofessional bosses, that never really bothered me that much because they were usually quickly replaced, but I also had a really cruel boss, who was just nasty and evil. She became my boss after I had happily worked for a company for 6 years. I remained for nearly 2 more years after she was my boss but it was an aweful 2 years and I ended up quitting the job I had loved so much due to her. Have you ever had a boss that cruel, or a boss that was un-professional.

I know what you mean. Some years ago I had the best job in the world, but the company was taken over by our rivals when our directors chose to retire. The rival company became our new employers, and though not unprofessional in their overall attitude to work and their clients, to some (including me) of their staff, their attitude was less than pleasant. I was due to circumstances, forced to stay in this job that I loathed - I'd loved it with the previous company - for nearly 7 years, as for various reasons it was impossible to find another job and move on. I think part of the problem with one of the bosses was that she resented the fact that I knew more about the type of work we were involved in than what she thought I ought to know. Eventually things came to a head and to cut a long story short, I had to have a confrontation with these two somewhat bullying bosses, but after the confrontation, we got on very well. Us then getting on well could have been partly due to the fact that I accepted voluntary redundancy, and they then knew they'd be getting rid of me soon.

This lady definately did not like me knowing more than I should have, before she came the company had been relatively small so when someone was sick or on vacation I would be able to back them up so I learned many different jobs. When ever there were issues in jobs not even related to my own I was able to figure out what happened, and while most bosses would have been impressed she would get annoyed by it. She also resisted me changing posisitions so I would no longer be directly under her. I even talked to the partner of the other company that my company owned when they had a position opened, he was thrilled that I wanted the job and wanted to take me but she squashed that. I knew I was never going to get anywhere and if I stayed there I would be in the same position the rest of my life. I am sorry but I am too smart for that.

I have been very lucky and have had only two very unprofessional bosses. Right now I am working for a very mean boss. Actually most of the managers there are. I work at TJ Maxx and the management there are not very kind to us. We are talked down to and I have been lied to more times than I can count. It makes for a very negative environment to work in. My co-workers are very unhappy. I myself am currently looking for another job which in this economy isn't easy to do. I am hoping to find something very soon. They just don't treat people with respect and it is very sad. The other experience I had was quite a few years ago. I had been working for this company for 4 years and had gone through three managers. The third one was a racist and I was on the receiving end for the first time in my life. He tried to cause as many problems for me as he could. He tried many times to get me to transfer. I am very stubborn and stuck it out. Finally HR called me in for a meeting to find out what was going on and when I pointed out the racist things he had done and I had quite a few co-workers who were witnesses he did a 180 and actually made a attempt to work better with me. We were able to finally work together and even though I never liked him as a person I was still professional and treated him with respect. In the end the company ended up firing him and I can't lie I was happy to see him go. I am happy to say for the most part of my working life I have had a lot of great managers who I learned a lot from. For any bosses out there reading this it is so much better treating your employees with respect and you will get much better results. I enjoy working for my bosses that treat me with respect it makes me want to give my best and help them with their bosses anyway I can.

That saying you get more bees with flowers than hot sauce applies in this situation. I will bend over back words for a nice good boss, but I will never bend over back wards for someone who treats me like doo doo. I will do my job and do it well becaust that is how I am but I won't do anything extra to make that boss look good.

For the past 11 years I am working for a person who’s as grumpy, irrational, irritating, cynical, rude, unpredictable, unprofessional, dictator as bosses come across. The only reason we tolerate him is because he’s the proprietor so we cant really kick him out! Why am I still sticking around…the job’s stable, its 10 minutes from my home and the entire weekend is off with working hours limited to 8 in a day and the pay’s not great but steady

I had one who made it really clear that she didn't trust her people, something about getting in trouble in the past for something that a subordinate did.

Well I am really sorry that you had to leave your job because of her. Even more so if you loved your job so very much! I have only had two jobs and I didn't stay there very long so I can not say that I have ever been in your situation and honestly, I hope I do not ever get into a situation like that. Happy MyLotting. -AidanKay.

I walked out of a job this summer after almost two years because of a very nasty, mean spirited, unprofessional boss. The b word didn't begin to describe her. I was starting to experience stress related health problems and finally after a string of hate emails I called my wife and apologized for any financial distress this was going to cause and advised her I was on my way home. Took almost three months to find work again because this woman lied to prospective employers and to government agencies about me. My new company hired me because several important people there know me from elsewhere and knew it not only wasn't true but that I was a top notch prospect. Fortunately the Employment Insurance people caught her in her own lies and I never had to go through an investigation. I don't know whether she had to pay any fines for it. I don't want to know. I'm just glad I don't have to put up with her anymore. Outside of her I enjoyed the job and did the company a great deal of good.

Yes and I confront him directly. Have a sit down in his office. Advise him that, you know that they don't mean much by the comments, but you find it a little upsetting when they say things like "I gonna slap you" in an open forum. Advise him that you want to be a very good employee. So, if their is a problem with your work, you would appreciate if he would come to directly and voice any concerns.

my previous boss is a Taiwanese,he is ambious and brave, I mean he makes decision without deep thought,He has courage, but doesn't have mind and idea. So all staffs in that company are upset, cause policy is changing all the time for his idea is changing. Never a decision is alive for 1week. I don't think such boss would have bright future, although he age is near 50 ,but there seems nothing happened in his last 50 years, we always joke with each other he was kidnaped by ET when he was a child and just released no long ago. If you have such boss, try to guide him,if he is the one who is pigheaded ,forget him, leave him... if you stay, you will be like him...
