What are the possible ill effects or worrying too much about something?

I was advised by a friend long ago that being concerned and being worried are two different things. We can be concerned and not exactly be worried. Worrying too much does not help solve problems. I can never forget that advise and as I go on in life, I experience that it is indeed true.
The effects and it's magnitude may vary in different individuals.
To you personally how does worrying too much affect you?
How do you overcome worry?

Yes worrying too much is not good and healthy. It will bring lots of negative in your system. Based on my experience i suffered from the following had difficulty in breathing, i could not sleep/had insomia, no appettite in eating and i did lose weight. A former boss once told me to worry about the things that are worth worrying about -- because you can still do something about it. You just have to reflect on and assess how far you can do something about it. Those that are beyond your control leave it.

That's a good word from your former boss. That's true. Yes, worrying too much is not healthy. You must have worried a lot to be able to affect your breathing and have insomnia but I agree with you, they are really caused by worrying excessively. The sad thing is, it doesn't change anything really. It just makes our life more miserable.
enjoy life!

Stress and worry release hormones and chemicals into our system that damage it over time. It can lead to heart disease, sleepless nights, depression, anxiety, and bodily aches and pains...not to mention it destroys ones well being and sense of inner peace.
Some of the things known to combat stress and its harmful effects: exercise, meditation and other relaxation techniques, talking it over with someone, listening to relaxing music, getting outside and enjoying nature, writing our worries down in a journal, and when needed, seeking some professional help.
For me, the best way to eliminate worry is to take action to correct whatever is bothering me. Another technique I've used is the "20 minutes of worry a day" method. You set aside exactly 20 minutes at some point each day, and you do nothing but worry...if something other than worry creeps into your mind, push it away and get back to worrying.
When trying this, it makes one more aware of how fruitless it is to worry, or it becomes silly and boring or makes us laugh. The key is to worry ONLY during those 20 minutes. The rest of the day, you must shove worry away.
It's good, too, to realize what you have control over, and what things are totally outside of your control. Act on the things you can change, and quietly accept those things that are out of your control.

Wow! I like the way you put it Karen, thanks. What a terrible thing "worry" is, isn't it. It can exactly ruin our health to the point of having a heart disease. It can really cause havoc to one's well being. No wonder that some people say "worry eats your soul" It does. The good thing is it can be controlled as it is only in our minds. Like what you said, we can actually decide to have a "20 minutes of worry a day". Good idea.

Thank you, and yes, it can play havoc with our entire well-being if not gotten under control.
Good discussion!

Hmm.. In my case, I tend to be more irritable when I worry. Sometimes I also fall to the point where I don't remember why I am worried in the first place at all. It also have physical effects on me. I tend to lose weight when I worry too much. But Im trying my best to avoid those, and thank God I am able to do it somehow.
Thanks and good day. Nice topic. =)

It is damaging our health. And sending stress signal to our brain. It makes us restless and feel ill. But we can not avoid worrying sometimes. So prayer is the only solution for me.

Well, we all know that worrying is not good for health. It can lead to a lot of problems. As you may know that worrying causes stress and when you are stress you are not in the condition to think well. So it would not be good to worry to much. Of course we cannot take out the possibility of thinking about a problem. But what is important is to deal the problem in the best manner possible.

True, we must always be concerned but not necessarily worry too much, there is a big difference. When we are concerned, we analyze the problems, come up with solutions and apply them. When we worry too much, our objectivity is affected and when that happens proper solutions are elusive.

I think this is the best advise I can give you. I learned it from reading a good people management book.
A problem is something that has a solution. If something does not have a solution and you only end up continuously worrying about it then maybe it is a "fact" of life.
It is rather vague at first but I think it simply says that a problem is something that you can fix or will get fixed eventually by someone on your behalf or by itself. If it goes beyond that then maybe you just have to make the better of the situation on stop seeing it as a problem because it may just really be a fact of life.
as the lion king puts it, "hakuna matata" - It's a worry free philosophy ;)
Feel free to rate me ok :)

I think being concerned is a form of worrying but its very temporary. Worrying is longer term that will definitely affect you mentally but can manifest itself physically. I have seen it when hair falls out, people lose or gain tremendous amount of weight and I've seen illness from it.
People will say that I'm a very happy and easy going person. The only time I worry if that is the correct word, is when it concerns my family. And then I pray.
When life gives you lemons, you don't just leave them there. You make lemonade or custurd, or cake.

Worrying too much can cause stress related anxiety. I know someone who went to the doctor and was diagnosed with this. Medications will help but mostly the person can only help him or herself.
Too much worrying will give someone ulcers and gain or lose weight which in effect will give you eating disorders.
Taking steps one day at a time if having too much problems. Probems can't be solve overnight. And always think positively that things will realy fall into place after.

Worrying just make things worse. I can't think straight and it seems that I often made some mistakes every time I worry too much. I think it is better to be concern than to worry about things. Worrying sometimes cause stress, which is not good. But you know, in this life we are likely to be uneasy and we tend to worry a lot..it's like our nature I guess. But there are some who worry too much, that i don't find valid anymore....the're just making the situation complicated.
Happy mylotting manong!

So you have discovered one good way to lose weight. Hahaha It maybe a good one but the side effects are not that good. They are emotionally wrecking. LOL
Yes worrying too much will not change the circumstances, we are just punishing ourselves. I was on a plane one time and the person sitting next to me was worrying too much that the plane might crash to the point that his face was pale already. I tried to encourage him by saying, whether you worry or not, it will not affect the planes structure, this is the safest mode of travel. I don't believe this will crash. Hearing the word crash made him tremble more. I shouldn't have said it.

I think one can be concerned and not be stressed about it. Like I know I have to fix something at work for a client and it concerns me because I am not really sure how to do it, but I have some ideas to put into practice and see how they work. I don't stress on it, just when the time will come to do it, I'll try.
While I could be worried instead, that is more like I'm obsessing on the issue, tend to think too much to it and generally go round in circles without finding a solution.
I try not to worry much and if I do I become anxious, which I really hate! The only trick I have found up to now was writing down lists of things to do and their deadlines, I found myself worrying about deadlines that were much more far than others I was ignoring, writing down lists always helps. And for what concerned my job, I started keeping a copybook where I write everything I do, so first I always have a reference of what was done and don't need to remember everything, which is not possible, and second I put down what is to do and have a clearer understanding of what is on my to do list and the deadlines, it also saves me much of worry.
