The secret to getting a lot of responses...

is in the HEADLIINE of your discussion! I never did understand why some people get a ton of responses while others can barely get more than one response so I decided to test the theory...
Funny thing I was expecting somebody to spot this and report me but nobody did.. I started a discussion which I titled "I will do anything for love" and I barely got any responses but then I restarted the exact same topic but this time I titled it "would you do anything for love?" and I got over 60 responses which put a smile on my face
Unfortunatelt the admin deleted it after realising it was the same discussion. But I've tested this theory a couple of times and most people don't notice it's the exact same discussion I started, I only change the headline!
So I've come to the conclusion that it's the headline to your discussion that will arouse interest for somebody to respond even if they are not interested in that topic..
Recently I've found myself responding to topics that don't generally interest me but because of the way the person puts the headline I'm inclined to respond..
Have you noticed this too or am I just being a silly bunny again?

Hi jelly. That's only part of the secret, though it is a big part of it. It does seem to be true that if we make the title interesting that we'll get more responses. But there are other things that can help as well.
Here is a link to a discussion (made by another mylotter some years ago) that has some good tips on it:
http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1118753.aspx
I'm not sure about all of it, like tip #3, as everyone on here is in different time zones. But most everything else seems to be true.
Of course, after the glitch we had a few weeks back things still seem to be a little off, at least by what I've noticed. But then again maybe I'm just imagining things. LOL
Happy mylotting!

Hey dog. It might! LOL Though at the same time I've seen some mylotters that didn't use a sexy avatar and were still able to get a ton of responses to their discussions. So I don't think it always applies, though it doesn't hurt to have one either.
Well, there is only one way for you to find out. Wear some lingerie and see what happens! LOL

Hi jelly, I did realise this as some earlier discussions of mine were rather good but had really rubbish titles and drew little response. I've wanted to do them again but realised they would just go the way of your deleted ones so now the secret of severed heads in the Mani being nailed to tower walls (fascinating stuff I'm sure you'll agree' will be lost forever in an inanely titled discussion about what you would decorate the outside of your house with.

Hello Jelly!
What a nice discussion you have have there! Interesting! I am sure you will receive many responses from other members. Take your time to reply back the respond you have receive.
Yeah, I come across this discussion because of your eye catching headline!
On top of that your discussion has pop up in the today's top. It is good to get in the todays' top column. You can get more response if you have a good topic of discussion. It will help you generate more response.
But for me, I don't take too serious on how many response I have receive. The more response I have receive, the more time I need to spend to reply back. I have a very simple discussion before, the headline is ' are you happy with your height'. I get 100 responses!

Hi Again,
Not only more work but of course you get the great opportunity to earn more, !
To make it more clear, there are many people mylotting everyday to earn as much as they can. Perhaps it is one of the online making money website . So this people will feel happy if they get more responses each day. For me, of course I am happy if I receive many responses from other members. It is also a way that mylotters appreciate and find my discussion is interesting.
At Mylot, you will only earn on your own activity. In other words, you don't get to earn a single cents when you receive either one or many many responses. But if you receive many responses, it is a great opportunity of making more money for you. What you need to do is take your time to reply back the responses you have receive. You earn on what you have done!

hello Jelly Monty,
yes, i remember that discussion. and i did respond to that discussion too since the one who had sung that title was one of my favorites. and making the same content could really prove fatal and did deleted your discussion because it's considered duplicated. as for the secret of getting a lot of responses, i believe it can also be the content and how the person is thrilled to like the discussion and not entirely on the title, maybe it can drawn other users to simply make their time to respond to something worth their time.
And i believe that they did respond to your discussion because it was worth their attention and worth of their precious time to read it and share their ideas. sometimes, i prefer, if the discussion can really help a user instead of the purpose of response or earning itself.

Of course! It's the title or the headline of something that always catches the attention of readers. Even if your body of message or intention is very good but if you did not properly labeled it with an eye-catching opener, people may just dismiss it as another lenghty and tiresome read. Nice reminder tho. :)

I think most people like to talk about themselves so topics that relate to them personally they are more likely to answer. Most of my discussions havent had more than 5 or ten responses so I could probably use tips on getting lots of responses for discussions. I think posting in a popular category will also elicit many responses.

I've noticed that myself too. Actually, sometimes I tend to answer discussions that have a really catchy title, even if its on a topic that doesn't really interest me.

Hi chispa: titles are the very first impression on the topic if you don't feel any attraction to a topic you simply don't enter to it and period. This could be sound stuoid but we sometimes forget about it.

I do think you are right, as the tite is what peaks my interest too, and once I see the title, then I proceed to read the whole discussion, and then respond. I think too, that if the discussion itself doesn't have much meaning and it isn't all that interesting, then users, will just not respond. The most responses I have had has been 37, and that was pretty good for me, as I usually don't get all that many, so I just decided not to start discussions, as it is just to hard to come up with good topics where users will be interested enough to respond. At least respondding, I don't have to worry about the topic, just that I stick to the discussion when I do post a response. At least, posting responses is much simpler for mr anyway. Good luck to you and happy mylotting.

Hi, i think its a nice theory and i think its part true. But there could also be other factors that differs the first one to the latter. Things like the time you post it, how many other post where done at the time, also the quality of the other posts, or maybe people just missed yours at first. Well that is what i think that also makes a difference. Although i think yours is a more big reason than the ones i said.

Hi jellymonty,
You're right. It's really the HEADLINE that plays a big part of attracting responses. It's funny because I've been wanting to have a lot of responses on my discussions too and I always make sure my headlines are attractive. I noticed that there are a lot of uninteresting discussions here in myLot but they seem to have a lot of responses. It's strange and a bit ridiculous, really. ;) Anyway, Happy myLotting everyone.

Yes, I have noticed that having an interesting title helps get responses. So does having a lot of active friends/stalkers. Also, I think that where you post a discussion might play a part in it, too, because the interests with more members might be seen by more people. I think that responding back to people also helps to get more responses, because it generates an interesting dialog and makes people want to interact with you on other subjects, too.
Then again, I don't really know all that much, because my discussions don't usually get a lot of responses, so you should probably just ignore everything that I have just said.

Hi there jelly, i think you are right in this point, people do respond to headline which are catchy and something that they can explain,to make it more interesting putting up the right question which has lots of answers, if i were to be,i would do the same about doing my posting on good discussions that are interesting and eye catchy, well so far i had not tested it,this site surely keeps an eye on people who are doing promotions and posting links, and like posting discussions which are bad, just the way..but once get used to this sites its okay.

I think you are right jellymonty. Actually i have a discussion posted about three days ago, i think it was a good topic and many can relate to it. But i was a bit disappointed because very few responded. I guess the title did not fit the content because the discussion focused more on the transfer of diseases through coughing, sneezing, yawning and spitting. But its headline was social manners. Manners was only mentioned in that discussion because covering ones mouth when coughing reflects having good social manners. So it only confirms your observation that the title or headline of the topic is a big factor.

I have another theory about this, the simpler the question the higher the possibility that people will respond to your discussion. This is on the premise that people just want to respond to get points and the easier questions give them that chance.
If you had to do 500 responses a day, I doubt you'd bother thinking much about what you'd be typing in right?
Another theory is that when people tend to talk about love, there are more people interested to respond than when a discussion is about computers or games
