I have had dark circles under my eyes since I was a child. So I know it is not stress, etc
What Causes Dark Circles Under the Eyes?
Dark circles under the eyes are a common complaint. They make you appear tired, even when you're not, and can add years to your face, but for some people dark circles seem next to impossible to get rid of.
The most common cause of dark circles under your eyes is one you can't control: your family.
Contrary to what you may have heard, fatigue usually doesn't play a role in dark under-eye circles, according to Mayo Clinic dermatologist Lawrence Gibson, M.D. Lack of sleep is not a common cause either, although not sleeping can make dark circles appear worse because of swelling around the eyes. What does cause dark circles under the eyes? Here's a list of the most common causes.
1. Heredity
"The most common type of under-eye circles are usually an inherited trait like varicose veins and have nothing to do with underlying disease or how much sleep you get," says Paul Lazar, M.D., professor of clinical dermatology at Northwestern University in Chicago
Dark circles run in families for a number of reasons. When blood passes through the veins under your eyes (where the skin is very thin), dark circles can appear. If your skin is more transparent (an inherited trait), the circles will appear darker.
Meanwhile, you can also inherit an excess amount of skin pigmentation under the eyes, which leads to dark circles, and others, particularly those of Mediterranean ethnicity, have dark pigmentation in the dermis layer of the skin that "creates a blue-black hue below the eyes," says Dr. Sandy Tsao, a dermatologist at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Finally, the shape of your face can also contribute to dark circles. Those who are born with a deep hollow (or "tear trough") in the inner corner of their eyes can have dark circles because of a shadow that's cast near the corner of their eyes, says Tsao.
This article lists other causes and hints on how to get rid of them.

My 3 years old daughter has a slight dark circles under her eyes too. I am wondering is she got my gene? I am worry on her as she is now only 3 years old. Once you have a dark circle, it is so hard to get rid of it. She likes to rub her eyes contantly too.
What I do is I try to put her to bed early. I also need to make sure she take nap everyday. I can see she gets worst when she is tired or restless. Any food that kids can eat to get rid or dark circles? I don't think small kids can use any eye gel or eye mask.

Hi I get dark circles under my eyes a lot too. This usually happens to me when I do not get enough sleep. Sometimes cool cucumber slices works and refreshes my eyes too. I have heard that hemarroid cream is supposed to work - but have not yet tried it! I tend to use a light concealer under my eyes to disguise them.

hi carmelbg, I suggest you try Clinique Repairwear intensive eye cream. It softens the under eyes and lightens dark circles. If not enough, try Garnier eye roll-on. :) Hope it works for you!

I would suggest rest and cold compress for the eyes after a hard days work. People who work in front of computer screens have a bigger change developing these discolorations around the eye. Resting your eyes for may be 2 hours for 5 minutes would help.

Alot of women get dark circles under their eyes because they don't have enough iron in their bodies, typically this happens after a women gives birth to a child. in some cases other women get it because they have low blood. a good way to get rid of the dark rings is to take a multi vitamin with iron as a dietary supplement.

Hello raiyandhaka this is checkmail and often had noticed many peoples with dark circles, even in my family. Its mostly because of overworking and less health. So the person suffering from such dark circles must get enough rest means sleep as well as have some natural nutrients for the health improvement.Hope this would be the best easy way to cure it.

Avocado slices placed over your eyes. My husband just informed me of this, apparently he read it in a magazine. I have never tried it but it would be worth a short. Avocado does have a lot of great health benefits so it really did not surprise me much when he just said that.

It is very common among people who work hard all the time.
If you want to reduce dark circle under eyes, a healthy eating habit can be useful. Yes, try to eat a healthy and balanced diet, take vitamins, and drink plenty of water. Another way to improve the bad situation is to get plenty of sleep nightly. You see, Although it’s not entirely clear why inadequate sleep results in dark circles under the eyes, but we’ve all seen it happen either to ourselves or someone we know.
Happy myLotting!

Hi raiyandhaka,
Dark circles may be due to heridity or due to due to lack of healthy food.
U can get rid of the dark circles by placing a cumcumber slices on the eyes and rest for 15 to 20 minutes. doing this the eyes will be sooth and reduces puffiness.
U can also apply almond oil under eyes before sleeping and wash ur face in the morning with the luke warm water.
Avacado oil placed under the eues also helps to reduce the dark circles.

Cucumber has always been the number one recommended home treatment. I recommend using it fresh from the fridge. It will give your eyes a refreshing treatment but don't forget to wash your face first. There are also under eye treatment products available in the market. But I have to say, having enough sleep and rest will definitely give your eyes a sweet treat. ;)

Hi
Getting enough sleep will reduce the intensity of dark circles around the eyes. You can put sliced cucumber over the eyes/ dark area around the eyes and take rest for 20 minutes. Use potato slices in the same manner. This will certainly reduce dark circles under eyes.
Take plenty of rest and drink more water.

I hate the dark circle under my eyes! Even when I have had enough sleep, they just won't go away. They look so ugly especially when I have trouble sleeping now and I have puffy under eyes.
Now, I am using an eye contour cream trying to reduce those 'panda' eyes. It has some nutrients that also help to reduce those wrinkles and increase firmness. It does work, but well, it only helps to 'reduce' and not making it vanishes.
So, have you tried any eye gel or cream before?? Like they mentioned above, cucumbers do make our eyes look fresh and bright, but I only use them a few times because I didn't see any improvement. Maybe I should be more patience.

That is true. And you will look older if you have those dark circles around your eyes.
What I usually do with that is that I would try to massage my face with an ice cube and I will put a fresh slice cucumber on my eyes (close eyes) for just about 10minutes.
