How long have you kept a diary or a journal?

I'd like to think I love to write but never wanted anyone reading it. So I kept a diary and I've had once since I was 12 years old. My first diary had a little lock on it. I have a collection of journals now but work is slowing me down from writing.

I've kept a journal since I was eighteen and write in it a few times a week. That's been about eight years now. When I was younger I would write about important things that happened, but I didn't really have a regular journal.

i don't write in mine regularly too...but whenever I go back to my old journal entries I'd laugh at how bad my writing was and how screwed my grammar was...but it's always nice remembering things as if going back to them and experiencing the feeling all over again.

Oh wow I started journal writing when I ws just a kid..but then I stopped for several yrs (for various reasons) and started up again in my late 20s...I still to this day (I'm 39 now) keep a journal but dont write in it nearly as much as I'd like or as I use to..

Off and on since the fourth grade and consistently for the past four years. The reason I'm so consistent about my journaling now is not because it's good for me (which it is) but because on this website I belong to people actually find my life interesting enough to pay me to read about it. I find that a little strange, but I'm not complaining.

I have been keeping diaries for many years. That is just my habbit , let me say. I like to keep record and notes of things to remember, places visited, people met, appointments made, dicussions held, and so on. Most of them are work-related, things I just should not forget. It is so enjoyable to look through the old diaries once in a while, bringing back the old memories.

I never knew you kept a diary. :) . So I guess there goes all your darkest secrets :)) I tried a couple of attempts to have my own. some of them lasted only weeks and others for months. I had one that I kept for almost a year and I tried updating it during special occasions. That one actually almost ended up being a short book of fiction as I tried to fictionalize happenings in my life. It's fun that way. A diary doesn't always have to be all serious and real. Sometimes I think your diary can be your outlet into creating a new persona of you. Eventually that's were writers get their inspiration
