I'm attracted by avocado but it's not a typical fruit here so I'm curious to try but at a loss for what to do with it! I tried it raw in salads but it does not suit my taste, can it be consumed cooked and are there recipes to have it raw?

I'm no sure of other recipes but I do know how to make avacado into a drink. What you do is you get avacado and cut it up (however many depends on you). You put it in the blender and add milk. Add a few teaspoons-tablespoons of sugar as you desire, depending on how sweet you want it, then mix and drink =D

I've never heard of it cooked. I'm from the southwest U.S. so I usually eat avocados as guacamole. Guacamole is simply a dip. ("mole" is the mexican word for sauce). There are all kinds of recipes that use a lot of additions to mashed avocado--i.e. chopped tomatoes, a squirt of lime juice, chopped cilantro, etc. I've even tried a recipe with mayonnaise added. However, my daughter-in-law is Hispanic and she makes the best guacamole I've ever tasted. And it's the simplest! D's Guacamole 3 ripe avocados, mashed, roasted garlic (how many cloves depend on how much you like garlic. I use 1-2 cloves) Mix this up using a wooden, not metal spoon. Avocados can darken easily; that's why some people use lime juice. Put it in the fridge until ready to serve, covering bowl with plastic wrap. This is usually served with corn chips/tortilla chips.

You may just need to get used to the taste and consistency of it. I didn't like it at first and after a while I would eat it in guacamole, but now I love it.
