Is anyone still worried about getting harmful halloween candy?

When I was younger my parents would always take our candy and check the fruit over for pin marks and check the candy wrappers to make sure that they didn't have any holes in them. Since becoming a parent and doing the trick or treating thing with my kids we usually go through the same routine. We have never found anything harmful. Is this a practice that all parents do or are we over doing it a bit?

I'd heard somewhere that there have actually only been a VERY FEW incidents where children were actually poisoned or bit into needles and whatnot. But still. In my opinion, it's just a general safety practice to not have your children eat candies and things that have already been opened. I think it's just.. a general safety thing, and there's nothing wrong with being safe. ("Better safe than sorry" might come into play here?)

That is true safety is the first priority. I really wouldn't want to be one of the very few where something really did happen.
