It is not a stupid question and I don't know either. I do remember the first computers in the 60's. They were so large and heavy that they were in specially constructed rooms to take the weight and the men wore white coats! Honestly!

Hello calaid. I heard from the radio this morning when I was listening to morning news that the Internet came into being in 1969, but I did not hear who invented it. It seems that it was first used by some military troops and governments before it became popular. There is a lot more for us to learn about it. Good day, friend.

You really drew me in with this one and I had to look it up and see if there was a specific answer to the question. Well, long answer short, there was no one person that invented the internet. The concept was developed by a large series of people and the first paper on the concept was published in 1961. The only two people that could be determined to have invented the internet are Bob Kahn and Vint Cerf but they have both publicly stated that no one person or group of people invented the internet.

Thank you so much for those information. I am wondering why there aren't any people fighting over the rights or the prestige of having invented the internet. It's one of the greatest things in this world and I am really curious why nobody seems to bother LOL. If I had something to do with its invention, I'd surely make sure eveyone knows I did it.hehehe..Thanks again for the response. Happy Mylotting!!!

hello ...
it started with ARPANET - a US military project linked to a communication system between some universities in the late 60s ...
with various advancements & technological (mostly protocol based) discoveries & developements, it became a larger & network. when Vinton Cerf & Robert Khan developed the TCP/IP (main protocol used for the net) in the early 70s, Cerf along some others came up with the reference model & specifications that would help further developments of the TCP/IP protocol. In the early 80s, the ARPANET was somewhat migrated to use the new protocol that was now compatible with most operating systems at that time. some major electronic mailing companies & network providers joined up, ISPs were formed & the use was more common.
In the early 90s it became more public, after the invention of the World Wide Web by a british scientist (Tim Berners-Lee) & by 1996 Internet was more than significant to people as well as it's alternate name: www
now it is what we know of it, governed by some entitities for naming convention, IP address attribution & so on ...
My knowlegde of the net is limited to what i've learned as an IT tech for an international telco, yet i had to remove the technical part from it to make it simple. also another good source would be the famous wiki ;)
hope did'nt scare you with this, the internet started with a simple basic need we all have - communication!
cheers!

Wow. Thank you so much for having the time to share all of those. I really appreciate it. I know a lot of mylotters will also learn from you!!! The reason why I started this topic was actually because I feel guilty that I am enjoying something which I dont even know who to thank for.hehe. The internet changed my life for the better and the people behind it really deserves all the credits.A lifetime thank you wouldn't be enough I guess. :D

I wish to know too. Those geniuses must have brilliant ideas to put technology in such a way that connects the unknown to the unknown and internet is one of the greatest invention of all time. The speed that travels at lightning speed has made internet the most important gadget for the world to be at everyone's doorstep without leaving home. With internet people become more advance in their thinking and at the same time become more knowledgeable.

It was invented by the government (U.S.) as a way to communicate in the event of a disaster. I'm not sure of the year but I think it was the early 1980's.

Hi Calai no question is stupid I don't know who invented the internet. I do know that Microsoft was one of the first ones with computers. I think it is rather smart to ask questions shows that you want to learn things. I think this question is rather a smart question. I would like to find this out myself! Have a great day!
