Have you had success getting referrals on Twitter?

I have been using Twitter just for social interaction, but found I was getting referrals to my programs, although that was not my intention.
On of the things I do every day, is to take part in the trending topic conversations, and include my shorten link before making my reply.
Do you use Twitter to get referrals?

The shorten link that you include in your reply to a trending topic - is the link relevant to the trending topic? If it isn't, your reply could be construed as spam. I'm finding you have to strike a delicate balance between being social and providing good content to your followers, and then including tweets with your affiliate links.

twitter doesn't work if you just gonna promote random things but if you tweet about normal things without referral link or links and once in a time put a link it can work. I joined once a new program 5 level deep and wrote about it on the release day and also put my ref link in that tweet and the next day I had a lot of people in my downline :D

No, I have never been useing twitter for referrals. Many days age, when I first went to the twitter, I like it very much. but after one month, my twitter was filled with rubbish follow posts. I can't delete them, and I have no any mothed for it. There are too much rubbish posts. I think that twitter will give up if it can't have a good treatment for rubbish posts. I will try facebook, and it is also a good program.
