I think some books I like there are few books that I absolutely love, but one of them was Angela's Ashes by the late author Frank McCourt. It was an extremely well written book that could both make you laugh and cry within a few pages. I never read a book that I was as taken by really. I have read many books that held my interest and I found very entertaining however.

...Hi smowy22315, I haven't read Angela's Ashes as yet But I understand that it is a great book, and many people loved the story. Books became my friends at an eary age, I think I got the habit from my father, I don't remember my mom reading too many books except the Bible. So I grew up searching for good books. I went to the school library once in junior high or high school, and I found this thick book that was compelling to me. I took it up to sign it out and the librarian told me to throw the book away after I finished with it because it was so old. I kept that book for many, many years. I can't throw a book away. Take care.

....Hi Ravenladyj, It is a wonderful thing to be able to immerse yourself into a book where you are almost a part of the plot although an onlooker. I have a friend who is a writer and he reads me some of his material. I find it amazing, how he weaves things together and makes it all so interesting. Writers themselves are fascinating as well. Thanks for the names of the books you have enjoyed, I am taking notes. Be well.

...Hi hora_fugit, It is very hard to put down a book that is so interesting that you just want to keep reading. I have been there a few times myself. When I was very young and my parents wanted me to cut the lights out and go to sleep, I would be under the bed covers with a flashlight still reading into the night. I loved books that much. Take it easy.

Hi artistry, haven't seen much of you lately, hope all is well with you. Books are my favourite things and I have heaps of them. I do tend to re read really good ones as better than some of the ones I can get hold of these days, but I would adore to have a whole massive parcel of new books of my choice.
The best book I've ever read I suppose would be my favourite book too, the one I would never let anyone else touch as it may well be out of print again now except for in Greek, I'm not sure. It's 'Eleni' by Niclolas Gage and is based on his own pursuit to bring the murderers of his mother to justice, years after the civil war in Greece had ended but at a time when the communists were being allowed to return to Greece. It is a harrowing book, packed with little known history and funny in its telling of the old traditional ways.

I do enjoy reading books too. I used to buy books at a bookstore. But now that the economy is so bad. I have to go borrow them from the local library. I like books because they can let your imagination soar and keep you reading for a long time. I have never read a book more than once though.

....Hi there nijolechu, I love reading books, I also collect books. You might want to look into joining a good book club, where you can get five or six books for a dollar and a year's membership. You just have to remember to send the rejection notice back each month, so you don't receive a lot of unwanted books. Take care.

I am a SciFi nut. Any good book that has a space theme is good to me. My all time favortie though was the 6 book series Venus Prime. It was set in the suposed nead future, in the local solar system. The cool thing about it was the use of plausable tech, by that I mean that it is not a far stretch from what we have today, not like warp drive. The entire series revolves around this one girl and her attempts to solve the conspiracy of happenings that have left here without an identity and with unusual abilities.
I tend to read my books slowly, alow it to generate a sort of movie in my mind, I find it more enjoyable that way, and dont feel the need to read them again.

..Hi rodsdman, Welcome to the old ranch, enjoy. Science fiction is intriguing. It seems that sometimes, science fiction books or movies foreshadow the future. If you remember the Star Trek series where they would say "beam me up Scottie", there was a news show on CNN, where they beamed another reporter into the studio in picture form, no body transformation as yet. But who knows? It was very interesting. So science fiction takes us close to future realities. Take care.

...Hi aulius111, It is a fantastic thing to find books that are so interesting that you read them over and over again, and enjoy them as if you are reading them for the very first time. I am sure the books you have mentioned are very well written. Thank you for your comment. Take care.

Yes, I 100% agree with you, books are indeed fascinating. I actually have read too many great books, but if I have to pick one, I would say The Famished Road by Ben Okri. It's the winner of Bookers Prize 1991. The story is set in Africa and very beautifully written. I read the Indonesian translation, but if you read the English one, it's like reading a very long poem. It's like reading One Hundred Years of Solitude (Gabriel Garcia Marquez) in a little child's point of view.

....Hi alwayzzcitra, I discovered books when i was very young and have loved them ever since. I think the best thing you can do for a young person, is to introduce them to a few good books. To read and enjoy books is such a pleasure in life. Some of the stories give you different aspects on life and help you to deal with various situations as you grow up and throughout life. Thank you for your comment, I appreciate your input. Take you.

The two books I love the most are The lake, by J.Lasenby and 17 ways to eat a mango, by J.Kadison.
Both came to me at a time I really needed them. The lake is a children book and it tells of an abused girl who escapes from home and goes living in the woods, at the time I read it, it gave me hope.
And 17 ways to eat a mango helped me seeing life in a different light. I have read both sooooo many times, but they're always actual to me.

....Hi paleorainy, That is so great, that you found books which gave you what you needed at a crucial time in your life. It is a wonderful thing when we are able to find a lifeline that helps to get us through the night. I do believe I have heard of The Lake, so nice of you to share this. I feel that books are and can be very valuable tools as we go through life, especially when we are growing up, and at different times in our lives. Take care.

...Hi there DivaGirl, Welcome to the ranch. That's what I would call a very good book, a "page turner" as they call them. A book that you would enjoy reading a second or third time, certainly deserves that title. Sometimes the book is better than the movie made from the book, because of the detail in the book that they omit from the movie. Take care.
