I dont want to sound morbid but I was a serious question to ask and I know alot of you people have moved at some point to another state, Anyways I Had been in Buffalo NY my entire life. I made a Promise to myself that when both my parents passed away, I would move to Another state, I thinking California I really Hate the snow and prefer to be in a warmer climate, I know I would have to Transfer my doctors and all that good stuff, find a place that I can afford and also rent a Uhaul to move all my stuff to my new place, I have a car as well but Im kinda nervous about the distance, and also would need to find a way to move my car if I decide not to drive, As well as be in a generally safe area.. Never been on my own by myself so I taken a leap of faith here, If you guys could help me out for down the line, Id Appericate it.

Why did you pick California? Florida would be a better choice its closer to New York and would be easier to move to. Florida does not get snow and its a much warmer climate that you are looking for. I would do baby steps and move to Florida. I moved from New York to New Mexico and I'm regretting it not to mention my daughter and her family. I'm sure it would be cheaper to move to Florida then to California and then you can drive to Florida. Good luck to you and your decision.

well let me just state for the record Len that Ive moved already to FL. I live in Hollywood. for 6 months, and it was Horrible, jobs were scarce, people were scarce, and It was difficult mainly because my friends and family were in buffalo and yet I was in FL. needless to say when I did move there it was a spur of the moment thing, which is prolly why it dident work out to well, I picked California because according to mapquest its only 20 hours to drive there as FL where I went took like 30 or more. If Not California then perhaps what other areas are a good place to settle down in?

Sorry I can't understand where you got your caculations from. When I mapquest Hollywood, Florida to Rio Rancho, New Mexico that came to 30 hours and California is still 2 or 3 more states depending on the direction you are driving. I drove from New York to Florida and did it in 18 hours. Have you also taken into account the big money problems that California is having. I understand where you are coming from with jobs in Florida because I'm having the same problem in New Mexico. However if you are not happy in Florida then try North Carolina or Virginia. I just think going to California will not make you any happier or secure. If you already had a job to go too that would be great but with no job I think its going to be harder for you in California. Good luck to you.

While I would normally say Cali would be ok, you got to remember that state is just about bankrupt, an jobs are very hard to find their, the crime level is going up because people are out of work, but it will get even worse next the economy out their is getting worse an worse, oh an don't forget earthquakes and wildfires.
Either move to FLA, but you have to pay huge hurricane insurance.
Arizona may be too hot an too expensive same with Nevada.
I will tell you one thing I live in GA and tons of New Yorkers have moved here, especially ones from Buffalo, you can see that every time you attend a Thrashers game vs the Sabres tons of those fans here.
Also we have a lil better employment, pretty warm here, not any really bad weather threats we get the occasional tornado from out of Alabama, and the rare hurricane from out of fla.
Hey if you can find a job in Cali and pay huge expenses go for it, but even if I was rich I would not move there with the state of their economy, I'm expecting some bad crime there next year maybe even a riot.

I am going to have to agree with lelin on this topic. Florida would be the better choice if your looking for a place that's cheap and the climate is warm. Florida is close to the Caribbean and its always warm. California its chilly in the winter time also its very expensive. California is probably the most expensive state in the USA. Before you move make sure you have money put away and also have money to spend. I wish you the best but just remember Florida would probably be the better place for you.
