Ways to improve website ranking in google

I have a website and I want to improve my website ranking on google. I m reading stuff on internet but its really confusing. Can anyone help me with it?

The first thing you need to do is make sure you stay on topic. If your site is about motorcycles don't keep changing to different topics like fishing or dancing. That just confuses the search engines and makes it tough to get a good ranking.
