Should women who hit men be given the same punishments as men who hit women?

After reading the reports on Marlon King (premiership footballer) being jailed for assualt on various women, amongst other things. It seemed a lot was made of the fact that it was a woman he had attacked. Obviously there's the issue that women are generally smaller than women so it's like picking on someone smaller than you who is less able to defend themselves, but I got the impression less would have been made of it if he had attacked a man. Violence towards men seems to be more tolerated in society than violence towards women.
Do you think violence towards men is more acceptable than violence towards women? Is it worse if a man hits a woman than if a woman hits a man, or a man hits a man?
I was reading comments on a website like:
'I hate that either partner feels the need to hit the other. Men shouldn't hit women but that should be a two way street and women shouldn't hit men either. The laws should be applied equally.'
'I agree with both points. Although women are undoubtably victims more than men, men also suffer violence and in most places, violent women tend to be trated more leniently. One problem though, is that many male victims are reluctant to give evidence through a sense of shame.'
Do you agree?

I think that all violence is bad full stop! It's very bad when a man hits a woman and by the same token it should also be classed as bad when a woman attacks or hits a man. There should be no difference in relation to the law when it comes to things like this. I'm pretty sure there is a lot of shame involved when a man is hit by a woman, I'm thinking of that macho idea where guys would find it embarrassing to report something like this for fear of ridicule! Well, we are living in changing times now and the law should be equal for everyone. Andrew

now the laws is if two people man and a woman, and the woman hits her husband or b/f she will still get charge as a man would. which i think its good that they are charging females as a man if he hits a female

I agree with ur points. Both men and woemn should be treated equally...
It's true that by nature men a more stronger than women...
But still there are some arogant women who can hurt men...
Hitting and fighting are the solutions for any problems...
It's definitely COMMUNICATION...
As you said, men are reluctant to give evidence if women had hit them due to shameness...
