I know that song has been around for a long time, and sometimes even seems a bit corny, yet do you think maybe it is getting to
be a smaller world? I was amazed when I realized how many of mylot
friends came from all over the globe. Here In the US sometimes we seem to isolate ourselves. that is a shame. I was just wondering how many of you mylotters really appreciate the fact that we are
connecting with friends from all over this world of Ours?

Absolutely!... the world as we know it is getting smaller and smaller.. yet at the same time we find out about newer things as well!
Definetly I feel that here in mylot we are a global family, people from all over the world are here, even places that I never thought I would see people from.
Its not just with internet, its also with everything else. My hubbie and I recently purchased the playstation 3. We can use that thing for chatting as well in a virtual place. All sorts of people from Russia, US, its amazing.
I actually love that song.

We are all brothers and sisters. Even if we live in a different state or country we are all human. There are those who are black, those who are tan and those who are white and yet we are all human beings. Your world is my world and therefore we are only one.

bagumbayan yes we are,you are so right. We are all humans
'and all children of God so we should reach out to each
other and mylot has really helped in this. we all have
families we love, we all have kids and worries and cares
about them. so many commonalities between us all.

I love the fact that we can communicate with people from all over the world and in all walks of life. It does seem that with technological advancements, the world is getting "smaller" even though the population is increasing. I think it's great and I think it gives us so much more opportunity to fulfill our potential.

Hello, from Spain. That is exactly what makes me write. It´s exciting to think that these lines may be being read by a Japanese, perhaps while sipping your favourite dish she remembers the "paella" in a small resturant at the port or Barcelona. What we know and what we want to know. The adventure of traveling and always communicate, awaiting the day that becomes a reality.

Hi Hatley.
I think you are correct when you say that US tends to isolate themselves. That is very obvious in many discussions here. But myLot is an eye-opener and many things can be learnt about almost every country and it's citizens.
It does feel like we are just one world here and we are so close and in contact immediately as soon as we respond and someone from another continent pops in to comment!

I love connecting with people from other places as well as here in the USA. My own family all live in another state thats 1,000 miles away from me. We stay connected via the internet. We make calls via instant messenger. And via web cams. Sure beats the old fashioned long distant call everyone dreaded the bill. My cell phone has unlimited long distant calling. Makes contact possible for the people that dont have computer and internet.

As the advancement of technology the world became smaller but this is a facts not the physical form. Because of internet people easily connecting each other and known each other of different languages and people around the globe. We meet new friends of different races and this is great because no conflict between besides we are in different countries of the world...This is my views. Have a nice day!

Yes, it most definitely is getting smaller with the rapid growth of social networking online. I am a member of several sites on which I have made friends around the world. It is funny as you get into knowing what time your friends will be coming online in different parts of the world and keep an eye out for them!
You are right about the USA isolating themselves from the rest of the world. I am from Australia an lived in the USA for five months in 97/98 and was shocked at how little Americans knew about the world outside their country. It must be something to do with a history of being so patriotic to your own country over there.
There was hardly ever any mention of events going on overseas on TV or radio news that I could see the whole time that I was there. It was at the beginning of the internet really taking off at that time, so it may be changing there now due to the internet being easier to find information.

My kids just sang and danced with this song during their UN Day celebration in school-- it was so touching seeing them waving their flaglets of different countries while marching to that tune. Then the teacher provided the audience significant information of each country.
I appreciated the fact that i am conencting with different people around the world through mylot. Imagine through this we are free to express our ideas, affirm each other and we have somebody to talk and listen to.
With the new technology that we have...it's so easy to connect wherever you are and whoever you are--IT'S REALLY A SMALL WORLD!

msfrancisco9369 This is so true our world has shrunk
and we can reach out and touch each other via our
computers. That UN day celebration must have been
'really wonderful, and giving information of each
country would help the children to appreciate it even
more.

msfrancisco9369 hi I was just thinking when you mentioned the UN
day in Santa Ana Ca at the city hall there is a plaza with an aisle of flags from all the countries.it is interesting that a lot of times when we were waiting for a bus, we did meet with
people from other countries who had stopped to look for their
own country's flag. It is a neat sight to see all these flags in
rows and people looking to see if their country is represented. as far as I know I do think all the cou ntries flags are now there.

That's true Hatley! It's not only educational and informative to the kids but even to us parents who were present that time-- it was a review for us about our world history... reviewing some information about each different countries. UN having only 26 countries when it started and now i think it's more than 50...

Have you ever heard opf the term Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon? It's a trivia game that some college students started and any actor can be linked to Kevin Bacon within six steps. It's actually quite an interesting study. So they went on to say that anyone can be linked to anyone else in the world in six steps. For Example: Ray Romano was in The Last Word with Ivar Brogger who was in Picture Perfect with Kevin Bacon. There is a whole website dedicated to this.

hi hately,
because of the internet and the modern teconology the world has grown in to very small place and the various chat messenger like yahoo, aim, msn, icq to name a few and various social sites like mylot, facebook, hi5, tagged and myspace have made sure people all over the world interact with each other and if one is careful on net then i do appriciate that we come to know different cultures and mindsets of persons from various countries.

Yeah, it does feel like the world's much smaller, what with the Internet and other communication devices we have now. All you have to do is turn on your computer, and boom! You can talk with anyone in any part of the world. It's quite neat, actually.

Yes now with all our technology we can just talk to anyone anyplace with our keyboards and computers. It really is neat. oh and my friend says he gets rid of the stuck song by singing the marine corp song. okay,if it works, fine.

Yes Hatley, I have noticed this, too, after spending a bit of time here on myLot. In fact, I think that the people from the US are a minority, or at least it seems that way sometimes. It seems to me that there are far more people from the UK and countries on that side of the globe than there are from this side of the globe. That is not a bad thing, though, because it unites us all as myLotters, and it exposes us to a lot of cultures that we might not otherwise encounter in our day to day lives.

Hi hatley: yes the world it's smaller than we think and consider our own experience on mylot i just think that it's really great to be able to share our feelings with persons around the world. All of us, we are human beings and we have some positive things to make the world know, no matter if it's something simple about our daily activities or to make us know how life is in your town or country. Mylot it's definetly a great place to know more about people around the world. Thanks for opening this discussion

I think the Internet definitely has made the world a smaller place and encourages world peace as people get to know others from around the world. It helps us see that those from other countries are much more like ourselves than we realized and to appreciate other cultures. I've only been on MyLot a few days but I really like that I can make friends here from other parts of the world. I'm assuming that MyLot has found a way to pay those outside of the U.S. and Canada. I've seen that other pay-for-writing social networks won't pay foreign contributors because they say it's too difficult to cut through the red tape. Hmmmm?? Anway, I'm looking forward to making friends from all over, including all of the U.S. as well.
