Mylot's "competition" . . .

United States
November 1, 2009 2:38pm CST
During my internet searches, I have found a few other websites that are similar to mylot, where you have to write things to earn money . . . I won't name them, but I have to say that I am not impressed with the other sites. Most of them are much more confusing, and not as easy to navigate as mylot is. I have also noticed that these other sites let you do something that is against the rules on mylot: making game and poll posts. Seriously, I have went to another website and found a topic devoted to "games and jokes," where all you see is: "List all the words you can that start with the letter . . . !" A whole bunch of word-listing games, where everyone is posting 1-word responses. I find that these don't really require any thought. Because the rules do not prohibit "game discussions" these websites are full of people just looking for an easy way to earn money. Very few people there have anything thoughtful to say. Aren't you glad that mylot had this rule? If not, the boards would be full of silly, mindless "forum games" and no one would need to put any thought into anything. . . So, what are your thoughts on this, and why do you like/dislike mylot?

Hi Merlin! The difference between myLot and all the other similar sites is exactly as you describe it - quality! Here we can have fun but we have to always bear in mind the Guidelines and, if we intend earning anything with our posts, the content. There is nothing to discuss in a poll or a game and that is why they are not allowed. If I had wanted to join a question and answer site then I would have gone elsewhere. Here there is the chance to really get to know the users and make friends which, on the other sites which are totally money orientated, does not happen. The rules might appear to be very strict but they are there for a reason - to maintain myLot different from all the other similar sites

They don't seem strict to those who can appreciate why they are set up like they are. It is for the benefit of all of us that they are different from those on other sites. MyLot is not 'other' sites or it wouldn't be myLot! What are we drinking for the toast?

I agree, the rules do make mylot a better place. It makes it different than other websites. So the rules are not strict, they are . . . fun rules! It's a great thing, how mylot is different. And we are having ale for the toast

Yes, I do agree with you, mylot let's you get to know friends from the conversations that are made. And the rules do not seem strict at all to me, I think it is a good thing that they had these rules. It makes mylot a better place for all of us! Let's have a toast . . . Here's to the finest website on the internet!

I have run into a few of these myself. You ar right they do not have the sophistication of mylot (to bad I dont get extra credits for this plug). One I came across is just a chat site, and rewards you for how many times your profile is visited, not for contibution. So you have to rely on popularity, not your own work. The rules Mylot uses really do keep this site civilized.

Yes, it is true that mylot is a level higher than most other sites, lol. As you've said, some only pays you for the amount of times your profile has been visited, so even if you put a lot of work into it you can still make very little . . . Mylot is a good balance of popularity and work, isn't it? The more friends you have the more responses and discussions you have to comment on.

So far I haven't come across any mylot competitor . But I think Mylot is the best and you can see its population is a huge number ! I like Mylot because it pays to us on our participation. The more you work, the more you get. It is pretty good for us to keep up the good job here at Mylot! I believe some members might have try the other website that look alike Mylot! If they find that Mylot is the best, they will rejoin Mylot anytime.

Well, I over the course of the 3+ yrs. I have been a member here have seen some of the other Blog/Forum type posting sites where you can earn money in, and was not impressed with these at all, so have chosen myLot to definately be my earning home in here for sure. I am so Glad that there is a lot of stuff like that not allowed here or this site would be full of junk like this as well. As for me I really think what makes myLot stand out above the rest is the Quality of stuff they allow here compared to the quantity that others think is what helps.

I couldn't agree more, lol. I think that mylot really is a great and unique site and they only allow thoughtful and interesting discussions to go on, unlike some of the other sites. Only discussions of quality are allowed here. In the world of mylot, we only accept the best of the best

That's right. I wouldn't pass the opportunity for other sites. mylot is like a chill spot for me online. Elsewhere, the satisfaction derived is not quite like from here. Maybe because there are lots of varieties that we can choose from, and most people are having day to day discussions about news, life experiences and many more. Whenever I spend time to write articles, I will still come back here each time. There are just so many things to catch up here and I'm loving every single minute of it, including friends surrounding. So, I won't pass it for any other site, similar to the lot. Nice to bump into you here and hopefully we'll cross path again on other discussions.

That's right, merlin. It brings people together. And I learn so many cultures about others as well that I was not quite sure of before. And updates on the crimes that are being committed and whatnot. See you, definitely..

I feel the same way, mylot seems to have much more variety than any other websites. Mylot does keep us rather busy and there is always a lot to do here. And I would never give up mylot for another site. . . We are sure to cross paths on other discussions, it's a small world

Hi merlinsorca: as you mention it's an important rule that keeps the order on mylot and they remember us that it's not all about the money but that we have to make mylot one of the best forum sites. I think it's a good rule in this order of ideas even if i think that there's nothing wrong with some games such as this or that? do you like this artist or not? where you have to make a real answer. Thanks for telling us about this, it's nice to know that we're in a grite site.

Well, while I do agree that some of those discussions, like the "do you like this artist or not" example you gave would work, what I was getting at was that those "games" like asking people for words that start with L or something. Wouldn't it be nice if mylot WAS the best forum? But that's not possible, since people are only in it for the money, and they leave when they find it too hard . . . Well, before I get off topic . . . Indeed, compared to other forum-like sites, mylot has to be one of the best, because it is so unique and has so much friendly people filled with great ideas. I just hate to see other websites (some more popular than mylot) where people do not need to think of a good answer and they still get payed . . . . .

Well, there are a good number of rules, so I can't type them all out. On the very bottom of this page (and all pages) you will find a couple of rows of buttons, and one of them says "guidelines." There you will find all the rules on mylot. You can also check the FAQs for more information. Welcome!

Hi there merlinsorca. I am constantly wondering about sites similar to this, but haven't really came across any with a good layout. Thank you for sharing what you have discovered. It is good to know that I am spending my time on a worthy site and that others do not compare. Thanks again, and have a good day!

It's a good thing mylot have these preventive measures so that people don't just go for quantity instead of quality. I mean, why would a site even pay people to spam their boards with useless one word or two word responses. I have a feeling they may even crash because they won't be able to afford to pay spammers. I like mylot because it's neat and organised in a way that you get to see related discussions that you are interested in. I have not seen any other site/forum do this and it is very good and innovative.
• United States
2 Nov 09
Yes, mylot's method of paying you on the amount of work you put in works much better than other sites. Elsewhere you can get paid for the spam as you've said, but here in mylot they will allow no such damn thing. They have rules against this to keep it an excellent site
@GemmaR (8517)

I agree with you completely. There are so many sites out there which don't compete at all. A friend of mine once opened a paid forum, which paid $0.01 per post (no matter where you posted it or what it said; he was RUBBISH with his rules) and $0.02 if you were an upgraded member, which cost $50 to upgrade. You got paid ever quarter (every 3 months) and I managed to earn almost $1000 in that time (from my own posts and posts by my referrals) Because he didn't have any rules, everyone could post whatever they wanted. He closed down right after the first payment. I got paid $200 of it, he didn't have the rest. But he was stupid.

I can see why your friend's site failed, lol. . . If you pay everybody $0.01 every post and all they post is spam it's possible to make a thousand one-word posts a day and make a whole bunch of money, so the owner will end up not having enough money to pay everyone. . .

Hi merlinsorca, I never even thought MyLot had competition until now. MyLot will aways win outright because it is the best of its kind. You will not meet a better bunch of people than on here. With some great discussions from great people.

Well, there sure are a lot of websites like mylot out there. I'm sure that mylot is among the best, and it has a great variety of quality discussions. I do agree with you, this website is a home of some of the best people on the internet, it is impossible to find a bad person on mylot

I have also found some forums like mylot. Some of the friends here at Mylot suggested me to join these forums. However by the look and management of the forum itself, it was clear that they are managed by single person. And the person does not seem to be a professional. Mylot layout and templates are unique while other forums have used free templates. Some did not show how much one earns.
• United States
3 Nov 09
That is true, mylot does seem like it is more professional while other forums seem like they are run by one person. I have also seen some of those that do not show how much a person earns like you've mentioned, and these seem to be less sophisticated as mylot is.

I agree with you in all aspects you have mentioned except the navigation..Mylot is very poor in navigation and in making posts..the stile extremely slow for about a week and I am not sure, this response will get posted or not..I have to wait more than 5 minites or even more to submit the typed content. But most of the time, its ending in fail only..regarding the qulaity of the discussions, I have not come across even a single site like mylot and in this category, we can not find any site as like mylot. The game discussions will spoil the sites..If we allow one word replies, the site become useless very soon..Fortunately, mylot is very keen in maintaining its own dignity. No other site can even be compared with mylot.

3 Nov 09
Did I read your response correctly? Mylot is perfectly fine when it comes to making posts, how is it extremely slow? I don't have to wait 5 minutes to submit the content, and I am always sure that whatever I type will get posted. I don't understand why you have a problem with mylot. . .

Yes, I too have come to know of quite a few sites which pay in lieu of posting contents. The format is similar to mylot but therein the similarity ends. Some sites are quite serious…they have certain criteria like your response must be of a pre-fixed length (like 100 words or 10 sentences etc) or they must be viewed and rated by a certain number of people and only then you get any payment. Others require you to browse thru the net and post relevant info on a certain topic. And still others are frivolous in nature, just like you mentioned. Mylot is the only site I have found which offers flexibility of content, quality information and useful interchange of knowledge…while its fun too with the members pitching in with their own jokes and sense of humour. Yet, mylot has certain guidelines too which does not let it become just another site in the crowded net world. And the payment is good too. There’s no site like mylot!

Hmm, you seem to have mentioned a wide variety of other sites that seem to be pretty good, but not better than mylot! And mylot has the good balance of the rules/restrictions and the freedoms we get to have, making it a truly remarkable site

I have run into those kind of sites before and actually did join one, but I got tired of it before I even reached payout and decided to come back to myLot. Like you said, it's the quality here that counts! Of course, those kind of sites are easy to cash out at, and for people that need a little bit of extra cash quick then it might be a good idea to post a bit at those sites, but honestly, myLot is better than them all. I wouldn't leave this site and go to another for anything. The quality of the posts are amazing, and the people that post here are both thoughtful and polite.

I do understand why some of those other sites might be useful, as I think that they mostly aimed at people who want to make extra money, and I don't blame them. Mylot really does has a better quality and friendlier atmosphere to it, though it is not designed to get you money, but instead to have these discussions. I also would not leave mylot for anything else

Yes, it is good to realize the differences between mylot and other sites. I know that other sites all have their different methods, but I can't help but think that these discussions they start do not have any thought in them. . . And, of course, as I've said they all are different, but I think mylot is the best lol.
