Do you have a dishwasher or do you do dishes by hand?

I have to do dishes by hand and I am truly starting to hate it. It used to be no big deal to me but after doing something for years my back starts to hurt every time I stand there doing the dishes. I am thinking of getting a dishwasher soon so I don't have to keep doing them by hand. For those who have a dishwasher, how much of a difference has it made for you? Is it easier and does it make life easier? Now I am off to do the stupid dishes for the night. I would put them off until tomorrow but I will be angry with myself when I wake up to a pile of dishes in the sink. :)

I've never had a dishwasher. I used to want one so bad but never was lucky enough to have one. Now I am just so used to doing the dishes by hand. I don't really mind it. I did dishwashing for a restraunt and to be honest...it's almost as much work. I had to scrape the dishes soak them and rinse them by hand before putting them in the dishwasher. I think the dishwasher sterilized them but other than that....it was just an added step to the handwashing process. That was years ago. Maybe they have improved from those days. If not,...it is still almost as much work.

I rinse my dishes really good with hot water anyway before I wash them. I still want to try one to see if I like it but you might have a point since you have experienced this. Thanks for responding! :)

Trust me...if I had one...I'd be using it. IT is a great way to get the dishes out of sight quickly. My oldest daughter has one and she loves it especially when she has company. So I guess it's all just a matter of opinion.

here we can afford it because the charges are still very low. but it is increasing steadily and sooner or later we will also have to rely on either ourselves or the dishwasher...

Using dishwasher here is not very common we still prefer washing the dishes by hand. It is very tiring to wash the dishes especially if there's an occasion at home we don't have a choice but to wash it manually.

Yes it is a big pain in the butt to do the dishes by hand, especially when you have a lot of them to do. That is why I would rather do them twice a day than do them all at once. My back starts to really hurt after standing there for so long. :)

I don't like washing the dishes, it is a housework that I feel bored. But we don't have the dishwasher at home and we have to wash dishes by hand. I wonder whether the dishwasher works so well or not. I am afraid it can not wash so well if the dishes are very oily. I love China

I absolutely hate washing the dishes anymore. I am used to it but I have really started to hate doing it. I wouldn't hate it so much if my back didn't hurt so bad when I did them. It also doesn't bother me much when there aren't that many to do. I can't wait to try out a dishwasher! Thanks for responding! :)

I have a dishwasher and sometimes i do the dishes by hand because dish washers a very good for flat dishes for dishes that are deep or cups, it cant wash them so you have to wash them by hand but it will help your back

We don't have dishwasher here at our home, we do it manually or by hands. Washing dishes is done by rotating chores that our parents arranged so that all of us get to experience washing dishes. It was great washing dishes but its terrible when you have to wash so many dishes that your hands ache because you wash to much already!

That is good that you are learning responsibility by taking turns doing the dishes. It is terrible to have to do so many at once though. Thanks for responding. :)

Hi, cwilson, we still wash up by hand.Maybe dishwasher is not so popular here. And some of my friends who used dishwasher before still do it by hand now. It seems sometimes it's not as convenient as we think. As I haven't used dishwasher, I don't know its shortcoming. But for me, dishes are washed up cleaner by hand, I think. You know, dishes or bowls are usually in irregular shape. Washing up by hand are more flexible to clean the corners. In another way, I think maybe I don't hate it. Haha...

I am afraid I will be doing dishes by hand for a while too because I can't afford a dishwasher right now. Once I get one I am sure I will never go back. Unless of course the dishes do not come out as clean as they should and then I will have to do them by hand. Thanks for responding. :)

I wash by hand, but already planning to get a dishwasher. I hate washing the dishes! I really, really hate it. I can be the cook here at home, just don't make me wash the dishes. I always look for an escape whenever its time to decide on that. Haha.

The dishwasher and laundry machines are the best inventions since the toilet. Basically, the inception of the dishwasher got rid of the maid. Yes, it took away someone's job, but the good news is that you don't have to pay someone to do your dishes, just pay for water and electricity. More importantly, if you didn't have a maid to do the dishes, you would've done it yourself. So the dishwasher saves time.

I'm probably like most people, I used to have a dishwasher but now that it is broken I wash all the dishes by hand. Once the twrilly bit ha sbroken off at the top of the washer the dishes were never as shiney again no matter how much liquid you use! Wasking up though can be fun if you share and makes a good time for conversation. Is it cleaner than a dishwasher - well that depends on the the skill of the human dish washer!

I do the dishes by myself and I can't hear over the water running to have a conversation with my husband. I just get tired of doing them all the time but until I can afford a dishwasher, that is the way it is going to be. Thanks for responding. :)

Yes, I am very tired of doing the dishes by hand also. That is great that your husband owns a restaurant and I am sure having a dishwasher saves a lot of time, especially in a restaurant. My mom works as a cook in a restaurant and they have to do the dishes by hand. Thanks for responding. :)

Well I have a dishwasher in my house but there's something wrong with it so now we have to do dishes by hand and there's alot of peole in my house so it's definitly a pain when it's time to do dishes it also takes longer to get them done so i understand where ur coming from when u have to stand at the sink for so long but having a dishwasher is a good idea the dishes get done in a breeze nd all ur dishes get washed all at one time lol but it definitley saves time Plus wat we use to do wen we were finished using a dish well juss rinse it off nd put it the dishwasher instead of letting the sink pile up so either wen the dishwasher was full or at the end of the day well turn it on so the next day all we have to do is empty it out nd put all the dishes that are now clean away where they're pose to be

We actually do a combination of the two. Right now in our home, we have a portable dishwasher and we clean the majority of our regular dishes in the dishwasher, however we frequently was our pots and pans by hand. For us this method works out very well because we don't fill the dishwasher on a daily basis but we typically need to use the same pots and pans on a daily basis. The fact that we only do two to three things by hand each day is a tremendous help for us because I've never liked to wash the dishes by hand and I would avoid it at all costs if I could.

I know I hate doing dishes by hand too. I already figured I would have to do the pots and pans by hand, that isn't really a big deal. It doesn't bother me too much to do dishes by hand if there aren't a lot to do. That is why I do them at least twice a day. If my back didn't hurt so much when I wash dishes, it wouldn't bother me to do them by hand. Your way seems like a good idea. Now I just can't wait to get a dishwasher, lol. Thanks for responding. :)

If you are doing some maths about it, how much time you are actually using on the dish by hand everyday, all the year. You may save like 20 minutes for every dish you have to do if you get a dishwasher, and don't worry about the elecricity usage, because it wont be huge if you just save up plates and cups untill it's full!
