Energy efficiency in the home

With winter drawing in we are all burning more fuel to try and keep our homes warm and cosy. I have been trying to increase the energy efficiency of my home lately. I have adjusted and put insulating tape on the french doors, I have used the insulating tape on the windows too. Do you have any tips on increasing the energy efficiency of the home? What measures have you taken? These steps increase the green factor of your home but also save you money. Have you found your measures have returned some of the money invested? I am considering moving onto solar power is anyone using this?
