Would you purchase a Christmas gift from a second hand shop or thrift store?

This year, with the economy in a slump, I read an online poll that said people are willing to consider purchasing a gift from a second hand shop or thrift store this year? I actually think it is a good idea for the adults (siblings, aunts, uncles, grandparents), in order to save money and give more thought to a gift. It might be fun, and everybody would know that the gift should be hand made, vintage, second hand, etc. What do you think? Would you do this with your family or friends?

yes i would. i have been doing this for several years already. stuff from second hand stores are not that bad. some of the stuff that they sell are actually as good as new. besides, my family and friends would not mind if i don't get them a really expensive gift. like what they say, it's the thought that counts.

No I wouldn't! I would if only it is something collectable item that I knew the person would love it or it is what they have been searching for. It can be some stamps, old coins and etc. I don't think a person will like to get a second hand present like clothes, bags which have sign of use.

if the gift item is good as new and the price is really very affordable, why not. I might buy it as well. In fact, i have been searching for nice second hand items which I will be giving to my friends and relatives this Christmas. it's the thought that counts anyway.

Yes, I would buy a gift from a second hand shop or thrift store if they have something that I like or I know a family member would like something the store has. I do not see anything wrong with buying a Christmas gift from either of these places. With the economy being so bad I think it would be a good idea to shop at these stores.

I dont thinks the point of Christmas is to but a value on were you buy a gift. Christmas isnt even about giving gifts, its about a celebration of Jesus. Maybe one gift you can get from a secon hand store is a bible for you and your family. The gift of god is truely the best gift anyone could ever receive.

Hello noellevandiver! I do buy stuffs from second hand shops or thrift stores. I sometimes give them as a gift. Sometimes, there are stuffs that are for sale in these stores that have not been used at all. I buy them if I believe someone I know is interested in such stuff. There are also some collector items found in these stores. Most of them are hard-to-find items. I have friends and relatives who have some collections. Stamps, bottle caps, books, trinkets, fancy/costume jewelries, action figures, etc. These are just some of the things I buy which are otherwise not available in many stores selling brand new items.

Without hesitation and have done so often. For me its a lot more fun too..If I go shopping at a regular store then I usually have an idea of what to get and when I go to that store next week, it has the very same stuff it had the week before, the week before that and so on.. But not so at the thrift stores..For instance, Liz now has a nice collection of 50's Japan porcelains and demitasse sets. She likes miniatures, doll things and similar. So I get her 'welcome home' things when she comes back from a pet-sitting stint... There was our roommate who nostalgia'd a lot and liked the toy cars/trucks and cartoon character oriented stuff. Tho not strictly Christmas, still the same notion.. In fact, there's the better chance to find the one-of-a-kind, quirky or novel thing for the unique gift. So, yes I definately would..Enjoy!

a second-hand Christmas gift - second-hand Christmas gifts are common nowadays.
I have read some similiar news so far. As you have said above, with the downturn of the economics, many people have to consider purchasing a gift from a second hand shop or thrift store this year in order to save some money. Yes, for the financial crisis, many people are becoming jobless and have to meet the bad situation lack of money. People can purchase a second-hand Christmas gift, but there are still full of love and blessing. Have a nice day!

Yes, I would and I have. Sometimes I find things there and use it to make something new. I also admit that I have even re-gifted...

I'd *rather* buy something new from a store, but I don't see any reason that it would be a huge offense to buy something from a thrift store. Especially if it's like new, or is an antique. Because, really, you're not going to find any "new" antiques, haha.

You can take it as a good idea that to buy a gift in a second hand shop, but I have never done that befor.Becourse in our city ,few peple like buy thrift things ,the second hand shop is also hard to find . When I have no money for the gift ,I still will buy the new one ,but just a very cheap or small things .Also you can make a gift by your onw hands ,and it's your kindly feelings, so your relatives will love it also. No matter how you get a gift ,you can enjoy a happy time in the festival, right?

For me it depends very much on the item. I try to give gifts that the reciever will love, and if I find something I think they will really like in a second hand shop, why not? (But usually that is not the case, I guess my friends and family have expensive taste or something!)

I will. If assuming I find something that is very much useful for the person I want to give to, then I will be buying such. It does not matter if the item is brand new or second hand for as long as the gift is given heartily and such item is of great value and use to that person.

I would do it if it were a really big Christmas gift for a child that was in like new condition. My mom used to do it all the time for my kids and it saved her big and the kids never knew the difference. It's a good thing she did it too. My daughter wanted the motorized Barbie car so my mom bought a used one that looked like new. My daughter rarely ever used it at all. So the money that would have been spent for a new one wasn't wasted. As long as it is in like new condition, I don't see a problem with it.

of course.there are lots of unique finds in thrift stores plus they are cheap.its not important whether gifts is not expensive as long as it came from your heart.

All of the Christmas gifts I'll so this year are second-hand. I don't really have a choice because I am short of money, so it's second-hand or nothing, though I think the gifts I bought are nice and they should be appreciated. I told my mother I bought them second-hand and she said I did really well! Encouraging!!
