What do you think of comments that are exactly copied from other forum sites?

One discussion caught my interest and I would have wanted to post a comment but for lack of knowledge on the topic, I decided against. For curiosity's sake and for my personal satisfaction, I googled the subject matter and found out that one of the comments posted at mylot was exactly copied from one forum site. What is your take on this? What would you do under the circumstances?

I think this is just not rare.
Maybe this kind of things bothers us and decrease our enthuism about something.
Any way if the person copys the answer and labeled the origin of the answer that must be acceptable.

Maybe that is a different thing in quoting someone's work as a reference. But in this case, he commented as though it were his own.

It's called plagiarism and it is disappointing to see people do it here in mylot. I cannot understand why they cannot take the time to compose an original answer and it is so not cool. I hope the one who started will take the time to call out people who do this so that they will not repeat it. I hope it is not something they also do with their school or office work.

It all boils down to values you personally keep. It boils down to being honest not just to others but to one's self. It boils down to your personal obligation and responsibility to be truthful at all times. The act is tantamount to stealing something that belongs to others. It is lamentable to note that there are people that we just can't change nor things that we can control.

I was looking at your tags, and wow, there are some really long ones there, lol..
Anyway, back to the subject. I certainly think that plagiarism is not allowed and if the site owner realizes this, they will definitely penalize. It's best to stick to an original post and not copied from somewhere.

Yes, must be the longest tags in the world? hahahaha. It certainly is a violation and hope that mylot finds a way to prevent it or impose sanctions therefor. It is always guilt-free, rightful, safe and best to share comments based on our own personal experience. Thanks for your comments.

Good point my friend. Since I am not a member of other forums ( I'm a die hard mylotter) I have no way of knowing whether a topic is copied or not. I'm not even sure what mylot guidelines say about this, I will check it out. Personally, I feel that it is intellectual dishonesty. One can get ideas or other postings can spark to some more ideas but to copy exactly the contents is plagiarism. Now that you've mentioned it, how can we be sure that it is the other way around too. People copy our postings here and post it in a different forum. You kept me thinking here.
We can't really control rouge players, can we? Me may have to just leave them to their own devices and watch them self-destruct, for crime, in whatever form does not pay.
I notice one user here who post countless discussions in a day but doesn't make comments to responses the discussion gets. Maybe this is what he is doing all along. He couldn't respond for the simple reason, he doesn't know how to. He just copied them. My imagination is running wild now but who knows?

It is copied word for word, including the quotation marks that were used there, except for one word which was copied wrongly (obviously he did not "copy and paste"). That is really dishonesty. Mylot has guidelines for copyrighted work and the owner may report that violation. I cannot do that as it is not my work that was copied and I am not intending to report it to anyone. Let him be. Let him rejoice in the thought that he had successfully commented on a discussion, lol. Yes, it is possible that it is the other way around, too ... them copying our postings (I am pretty sure manong05's comments go copied first. He always posts good discussions which make responders think. That is why I hesitate starting a discussion because I hate thinking and shaking my brain, lol ... if it were only simple malunggay questions, that would have been different, hahahahaha). Goodnight my friend, my day ends here.

I respond and comment to the best of my ability. There are people doing various things to satisfy themselves which are beyond my control. Through quality discussions and responses I can advise them against such immoral and unethical activities. It is for them to understand what is good and what is bad.

You are right there, meapas. We are mature and responsible persons here. As such, it behooves upon each one of us to act with propriety in accordance with legal, moral and religious laws. If they tend to drive themselves out of the right path and choose to do immoral and unethical acts, we cannot do anything. We just hope they will, one day, realize that it is wrong to do that. It is true, what they did was beyond us.

Normally, if I encounter plagiarism in this site, I would report the user immediately. Obviously, this plagiarist would usually copy and paste from any of the previous responses of a certain discussion and sometimes add a sentence or two of his or her own. So, it will be easier to notice, but I think it will be a bit difficult if it's from another forum site. If you can check and compare when the comment was posted then we will be able to know who is plagiarizing and make a report.

That could be one of the reasons. If he was the same person, then he was 'self-plagiarizing', which is still wrong.

The comment from the other forum site was posted in 2006. That should answer who is copying whom. But, on second thought, might he at mylot and he at the other forum be one and the same person?

If it came from the same author then for me it would be alright, but if not then it is a big offense to the odiginal author.

This is totally against the spirit of this sight. We are here to share our opinions and most of all be ourselves. If we copy someone else's work the whole purpose is defeated.I think this person should be reported against and banned for life. It is just not fair on people who try to communicate with others and earn through honest effort.

Yes, we are here to share our own ideas. He was copying ideas and would not do justice to the purposes and intents for which this site was created.

I think this kind of defeats the object of these discussions. I personally post discussions to learn from peoples experiences. If they have copied an answer from another source then they can't back up their comments with their own experience. Maybe they are trying to make as much cash as possible and adding content on anything to earn the money.

I agree with you. He is sharing things that he copied, lol. It gives me a wild thought now ... if there are people here who copy answers from other forum sites, it might also be possible that they are copying started discussions. What do you think?
