Pressing of dresses after washing.

How many of you press/iron your dresses after washing them. I usually do not do the ironing/ pressing at home, and give it to the shop where it is neatly pressed and delivered to my home. In India we have this plus point, where in most of the street corners they have a small mobile shop, where your dresses can be pressed and delivered immediately. I would like to know whether this facilities are available in other countries.

We don´t have that in my country, Chile. But the need for pressing and ironing depends a lot on the type of material of your dress. I haven´t ironend for years. I don´t like to do it, as I have back problems. ButI don´t feel it´s needed either. I have a couple of Summer dresses that need ironing and I take them to my daughters house. At her house she has a maid and they iron. Happy posting!

You are lucky. A maid does the ironing for you.Not everybody can afford a maid. Thanks for the response.

My daughter needs a maid as she has two children and she is the sole provider in the house. She is divorced and the children´s father only takes them out once in a while. She has a high paying job as a judge so she can afford a maid. I only take a dress once every two or three weeks in summer for her to iron.

Actually, I also do not iron much of my dresses except for my polo shirts, long sleeves and slacks. We just use fabric conditioners instead. It saves us money and energy on our electricity and water bills.

Of course, it saves you money and energy, but wont your shirts and pants be wrinkled after washing. Will it not be better to have it ironed rather than wearing a wrinkled dress. Thanks for the response.

Yes, I too feel that dresses should be pressed after cleaning and giving it in shops for pressing is the easiest way.I too give my dresses for pressing but my mother says that i should try to do it at home also.I find it lazy sometimes but sometimes I enjoy it. I press the clothes of my brother and parents also sometimes.Pressing gives the dress a more clean and smart look, I feel!!!

The problem is when we press, the creases and lines are not proper, whereas when the press wallah does it, he does it in a neat way and the lines are quite proper. This is one of the main reasons why I give my dresses for ironing. Thanks for the response.

ironing what's that? sorry i don't iron unless i have enough stuff to do. mainly shirts, i don't wear dresses. i find it's not worth turning the iron on if your only doing one thing. my good riding jackets go to the dry cleaners. but i find hanging the shirts on the line in a better position helps later on their not as wrinkled.

When you wear your shirts, you may be wearing a pair of pants or a skirt. Wont your skirt need a pressing before you wear it. Thanks for the response.

Reaaly lucky to be born an Indian, aren't we :D I too give my clothes in the laundry or to the small shops for ironing my clothes. They are very helpful & save a lot of time.Possible some other countries too have the similar facilities.Sometimes,I iron my clothes at home but most of the time its better to give it to professional pressers

Yes, in spite of all its faults, we are lucky to be born in India. You are right, it not only saves time, but also money, because the cost of electricity is also quite high. It seems people in Philippines and Malaysia also have similar facilities. Thanks for the response.

We usually do the pressing of our clothes at home. We segregate clothes to be worn outside and those worn at home. We only press those that we wear outside, for school or for work. My daughter or myself do the pressing for all of our clothes. Yes, we do have shops that do the pressing/ironing of clothes for a fee. I sometimes let them iron clothes which really need "professional" hands, like the party dresses and "barong tagalog" (national costume for men in the Philippines).

Here in my country, such facilities/shops were also available,in every place. Especially here in the city where life was always on the fast lane. But for me,i prefer pressing/ironing our clothes,it is just an easy job with steam iron.
