COOKED WHITE BEANS EVERY DAY. bLESS HER HEART , I LOVED HER TO DEATH BUT HAD NEVER SEEN ANYONE COOK THE SAME THING EVERY DAY. wE ALWAYS HAD A VARIETY. One time in all the years i knew her she cooked green beans out of the garden & my brother-in-law commented where's the white beans. In case u don't know what i mean by white beans they are officialy called great nothern beans, they are dried beans but most everyone around here just calls them white beans. I had put some on to cook for supper & it made me think of her. Would y'all want the same thing every day to eat??

Personally I prefer a little bit of variety when it comes to food and eating, unless it is a Salad. Plus I guess I would have to try the type of beans you are talking about, but I am usually not that Big of a bean fan either unless it is in the form of chili.

I can eat the same thing for days and days, but I would have a problem eating beans every day - because I'm actually mildly allergic to them...
But even I - how have an incredible tolerance for eating the same thing over and over, would have a problem eating the same thing EVERY day, even without the allergies (or the roommates who nag me to eat something different)

Yes, my dad and my living grandparents talk about how much beans they used to eat because they were poor. My dad says the only time he got fruit was when he was at school (their school handed out an apple to each kid every other day because they knew the kids weren't getting proper nutrition). They just couldn't afford it.

hi antiquelady wellhe he, not every day, I do like great
northern beans, but as my husband used to say, beans, beans'the musical fruit, when you eat them you go toot toot.I cleaned
that last word up but you will get the idea. No I like a
little variety in my food, but I wou ld go for some chocolate
and ice cream for dessert every day, not that I will get that
here at Gold Crest. But we do get a variety of sorts here, its just that each week seems to be a repeat of the week before,it would be nice if they mixed it up a bit here.

This sounds so much like my own in-laws. We are rice eating people and with that we need a good curry. At my mom’s place, there would be at least two different curries everyday but at my in-laws place, it would be the same mixed veg curry! Every morning when my FIL would return from the market, I would peep into the bag to see what veggies he’s got and the combination would invariable lead to the same old mixed veg curry. We of course had pulses and fish to go with it, but the basic curry would be the same. After a point of time, I could no longer eat the curry and would just nod my head if anybody asked me it I had had it…I think money was a factor definitely, its more expensive to buy a particular vegetable than all mixed together but I also feel that mixed veg curry is easier to cook, so my MIL too preferred it.

My dad grew up poor, he was the 15th of 16 children in his family. So every Monday through Saturday they had beans and cornbread for dinner. Every single night. On Sundays they had meat and potatoes for dinner, which was a treat. Despite having eaten so much of it growing up, beans and cornbread is still one of my dad's favorite meals.

I have been here in my mother's house for 3 weeks now to settle some business. I have not done my own cooking for that length of period as the housemaid is doing all the cooking. She has been cooking the same food for lunch and dinner and I have no other choice but to eat the same food for 3 weeks now. She would cook something different for my mom though as she is on a special diet and can only eat certain food. When I questioned her, she rudely told that she is only taking care of my mum's food and not for other occupants. I stop short of telling her that her food is worse than the food that is served to the prison inmates. The food comprises of fried fish, a vegetable and soup. I have complained the no change of recipe to my mother but my mum is too lenient and would not utter a word for fear of hurting the maid. She has been in her employ for 11 years now and her priority only goes to my mum.

bunnybon, in fact I can cook but I wouldn't like to mess around in the kitchen and since she is paid for the job I do not want to relieve her of her duties. More over I don't cook when ingredients are incomplete. Cooking takes a lot of time so I leave the chores to her so I'll have more time mylotting.

Hi Jo! I'm trying AGAIN to work my way back here. I had some other things happen that nearly pushed me over the edge so I needed some time to regroup with my mind before I lost it once and for all. I feel like I'm only getting back up to be slapped back down again but up I am once again! lol
Talk about them beans, UGH!! UGH!! I can't be around even the smell of them or I'll be in the bathroom sick sick sick!! My dad told me I used to be the first at the table grabbing the spoon but all I remember is eating them and then getting sick and that was the end of my liking those beans. Even as a waitress at a restaurant that had a buffet and of course had those beans, I had to make a wide circle away from the aroma or I'd be sick for sure. All it took was that one time getting sick off of them to end it for me. Hubby loves them however, he has to let me know when he's going to make them so I can get out of the house till he airs it out so I can come home again. lol Silly, I know but I can't help what my stomach does which is flip, flop all over my insides till it comes out. Sorry for the description but it's the honest to God's truth. Mom says they're good luck when eaten on New Years Day so she made them then with corn bread. Now I love corn bread!! I just can't do the beans. lol

Sounds to me Cat, your grandfather was a wonderful man & one to be admired. It was a real shame the women treated him that way. I hope she got what was coming to her & i bet she did. I hate to see anyone mistreated like that. I bet your grandma did get sick of the soup but what a nice neighbor to do that for her. I don't think u can go wrong ever helping people who need help like that. talking about the black eyed peas, i like them to but had a friend that hated them but every new years she would buy a can of them , open it up & eat one spoon ful so u could have good luck, lol. Have a happy day, Cat.

That would be too boring if I'd eat all the same kind of food everyday so I don't think I would want to do that. I've always loved variety especially in the food I eat because I easily gets tired of all the same taste everyday. There must be something in the white beans that your MIL found really palatable! White beans are good anyway but eating them everyday?

No I wouldn't - not unless it was for a reason - to save money. I have had a cup of noodle soup everyday for the past two months in order to try and get down my credit card. If I get a bonus then I will put the most of it on my credit card. Once this is free then I can max it out again next year~
My sister is paying my fare to the U.K. and then we can go to Rome together. Actually my two sisters and myself will be having a trip together. So then I will pay it off again and in about 2 years should have enough to go to Jerusalem. There are certain places that I want to see before I die. Jerusalem may not happen but I live in hope.
I may be so broke in retirement but boy, won't I bave some memories!

They did not have alot of money for sure but i just had never seen anyone cook the same thing like that. She cooked fresh ones every day because they never had any leftovers when it came to the beans, lol. I'm a firm believer in watching my money. I didn't see anything in your response about a trip to tennessee. u go & enjoy yourself. Retirement will take care of itself. U are a survivor, u will be fine & like u said look at the memories u will have. Thanks for responding.

Good morning, dear JO! If there is a preference...I would choose NOT to have a single food diet.....BUT I do remember times, as a child, the choice was not an option! There was one, very, very poor winter, where the staple of life, was the sacks of grain that were fed to the chickens. In those days, chemicals were not a part of the growing process...so safe to eat. And it's wonderful what the imagination can come up with, as a different form of serving the same food stock!
I love white beans, and I am wondering if you are referring to the little white ones that we call "navy beans?" Why that name, I do not know, and have noted that they are NOT nearly as flatulent causing as kidney beans! LOL! Have a great one, dear friend...HUGZ & LUV!

wow.maybe her family expected that. also, im sure some other things went with them right? i know my first hubby had to have my bisquits 3 times a day, every day. no matter what else we had i got so tired of baking bisquits that since our divorce 37yrs ago, i've hardly ever made them but maybe 3 times pretty much forgot how now. my son here also loves beans. thank goodness because of our economy, but i cook different kinds.

Hi Aunty, a lot of people use those roung here to make a soup of and whilst I enjoy the soup I find it hard work getting through all those beans. Here they are called 'fasolia'. I wouldn't want to eat the same thing every day but I do have Greek yogurt with honey every day at the end of the morning but it is delicious.
