Best Places to Meet New People?

A lot of my friends have been wondering where the best places are to meet new people, especially if you consider yourself a shy person. My advice to them was to put themselves in a situation where they simply would have to meet new people, such as joining a sports team, or enlisting in some kind of social hobby. In these kind of situations, you must find a "partner" or "communicate," but most importantly you will become a team player. Does anyone else have any suggestions for meeting new people?

It all really depends on what kind of people you want to meet. If your friends want to have overly social friends to break any awkward silences that may arise, then send them to a bar! If they want to have a more serious friendship, though, have them go to semi-formal events, or to cool and chic places like starbucks or barnes and nobles. Like I said before, it depends on what kind of friends your fried(s) is/are looking for.

The three most common places that I know of to meet people are: school, work, and bars/clubs. It's true! About 99.9% of the people me and my friends meet usually fall into one of those categories. I think it's a good idea to meet people on a sports team, but you obviously shouldn't join the team JUST for that purpose. (Hopefully you actually like the sports team and want to get a good workout or something). And also, I don't know of very many co-ed community/intramural sports teams out there.
