What is the real score of online dating..? is it effective or effective in a way that web owners got paid by paid users...just curious:)

I met my husband on an online friendship/dating site, and I know from experience that it is possible to find happiness that way, but I also know that many people get disappointed when they try online dating. I might take some time to find the right person, and I went on a couple of other dates before I met my husband. I had a few bad experiences, but I am very happy that I didn't give up.
There are free dates sites and there are sites that you have to pay for. Some of the dates sites are good, and others are scamming people. I know a site that you can use for free, but you can't read your mail unless you pay, so the site isn't useful if you are a free member. Sometimes the site sends out fake mails. They want to trick people into paying, and when they pay they discover that the mail is fake and was written by the dating site!

For sites like eharmony or match.com, it really seems to be all about the money. But there plenty of free dating sites.
As for being effective, they really are not. Most people are afraid to commit to meeting anyone offline, even after a fair amount of back and forth messaging.
Truth is, if you're looking for a friend to email back and forth, dating sites seem to be better than Facebook or Myspace.
