Sad? What is the first thing you do to relieve yourself?

Hello.
I am just wondering guys how you comfort yourself when you are in the state of sadness or grievance. What is the first thing that popped into your mind and you actually did it? And afterwards, did you feel great or relieved with it or it just made things worse?
Please share.

Whenever I'm sad the first thing I do to make myself feel better is watch tv. I usually tend to get depressed when I'm sad and I can't make myself go out shopping and see some friends..so to fight the depression I usually watch tv. My daughters will also go "Mommy, wanna hear a joke"? That's what they do whenever they catch me in a sad mood. Sweet, huh?

Hi gicolet.
Sweet definitely. Your daughter just know how to comfort her mom and it really works.

My favorite coping skill actually drives my husband crazy. When I get upset, overwhelmed, stresses, fatiqued, ready to move, ready to give up I overhaul my house. I rearrage it room by room. I clean all the nooks and crannys but I also move things to new places, sometimes new rooms all together. I have even changed my cupboards, putting the plates where the non perishables used to be. The drawers in my dressers, yup I have rearranged those too. I love the way it makes me feel to loose myself in my cleaning and arranging my "stuff". It is so refreshing to have a new space to look at. It does drive my husband crazy because he is always having to ask me where things are. My roomate in college made a rule about a semester in that I could move anything I wanted as long as her bed stayed where it was and she could see the TV from her bed. My mother would wake up to me rearranging my bedroom at 3:00 in the morning when I was younger. I always feel better after. While I am cleaning I process my issue(s). When the mess has been cleaned up around the house I feel like the mess in my head is sorted out as well.
What about you? What do you do to cope and comfort yourself?

Hi jodylee.
Somewhat we are the same. When I am upset during my high school and college days, my antidote is to clean the whole house and shine the floor until even the dog would slip.
Thank you for asking how do I cope and comfort myself. Well, I cry when I am sad or facing a tough problem. But I don't just shed my tears like a dripping faucet. I cry to God and I know He cries with me. And He comforts me and dries my tears away. And after that, I feel so much relief. Because my Bestfriend just gave me His shoulder to lean on.
Thanks for sharing. Don't worry, your husband will get used to it. And I agree with you that the change of position or arrangements of things gives refreshing sight each time.
