I've heard that avacados are one of the healthiest foods. Here's a little snippet from a website:
Avocados are a surprisingly complete food, with fourteen minerals to stimulate growth, including iron and copper for your blood. The sodium and potassium in avocados keeps your body chemically balanced, and their low sugar content and absence of starch make them an ideal fruit for diabetics or hypoglycemics (choose small slices throughout the day to keep your sugar balanced). Vitamins in avocados include A, several B-complex, C, and E, as well as phosphorus and magnesium. They’re also a great source of antioxidants like vitamins E and C.
Do you eat avacados? How do you prepare them?
Today a smeared a bit of avacado on my turkey wrap in place of the mayonaise. It made the wrap so much healthier and lower in calories and fat, but it still tasted great!
The only problem I'm noticing is the avacado goes bad very quickly! I only cut it open yesterday, used a small bit of it, then put it in a container to use for the rest of the week... but today it was already turning brown!
Do you have any tips on how to store an avacado so it stays fresh longer? I put the remainder of it in the freezer so hopefully I can still use a bit of it tomorrow!

I love avocado. I have one avocado tree behind my house. The season is over and the avocado has given me a lot of fruits this year. I agree with you that the fruit turn bad fast and what I did was to scoop up the flesh and put them in the freezer. This way the fruit can last longer.

Others have said I shouldn't put them in the fridge but no one mentioned the freezer!

I have stared to have at least one avocado a week but end up having two. I have it mashed up on toast in the morning. I have tried putting the half left covered with a good plastic wrap in the fridge. I try to have the plastic wrap as tight to the avocado as possible. The one I cut open this morning I had some trouble getting the pit out so I left it and did the plastic wrap around it having the plastic wrap as close as possible because it's the air that causes it to turn brown. Doing some research I found that some people suggest brushing lemon juice on it before wrapping it. Some suggest that the lemon juice will make the avocado mushy. Some suggest wrapping it in tinfoil. I have found that wrapping it in plastic wrap does keep it from going too brown to go ahead and use with in 24 hours.

They are quite creamy in texture but they need a dash of salt or to be mixed with something for a lil more flavor as they are bland on their own but so good for you!

My husband loves them and eats them about once a week. I don't like whole avacodos that much but I do like a little guacamole sometimes. I have also had salads with bits of avacodo in them that were very nice. But I don't eat them that often. But I would be willing to try more things that have avacodo in them.

With many trying to eat better it wouldn't hurt to add them somewhere in your diet.

I do not eat avacados as I do not like the texture of it. I know they are very good for you and are a great source of vitamins. Even though I don't eat them I have read a number of recipes that uses them and a tip given on there is to brush them with lemon juice. The citrus juice stops them from turning brown so quickly.

Here in our country where I live, Avocados are seasonal which means that we can only eat and buy Avocados during its harvest season. But then, I do always grab the opportunity to have an Avocado whenever it is available.
I like it cold with milk.

I am sorry that I cannot give you an input on how to keep avocados preserve. I usually buy just the right number for consumption and here in our place it depends on the season. There are months that they are really abundant. I always prepare avocados by mixing them with milk and sugar and putting them in the shaker. I do not want to eat them raw. But for the avocado shake, I can take a lot considering that I love the taste when shaken with ice.

Yes! I love avacados =D What I do, is I put a couple cut up avacados in the blender. With that, I put in milk and then had a couple tablespoons of sugar. Mix, then pour out =] I call it an avacado shake ^-^ It's actually quite good. I've had it ever since I was young. I'm not sure on how to store it so it stays longer since I usually use it before it turns brown.

Oxygenation starts when you cut it open. So to minimize food spoilage try 1)use all the avocado by making a guacamole or a salsa which is quite good for your nachos, and tacos, or try it the Asian way by adding honey or sugar and milk over the avocado pulp in a blender and you have an instant snack to cool you in a hot day, and 2)try squeezing a lemon or lime or orange over the exposed avocado. The citric acid in the juice will slow down the decomposition or deterioration of the avocado before putting it in the chiller or the freezer.

I eat avocado a lot in my life in the UK. Here avocado is not expensive as it was in Beijing. I use it for salad or put it into sandwich. Sometimes I also put soybean source into it and eat directly. As I know it’s very good for skin. We should eat it regularly. Here I can buy it four seasons and sometimes the supermarket has offer for it. So it’s really good for me to buy it when it’s on sale.

Yes I do eat avocados and I love them! By the way, thank you for the information. It is good to know that avocados don't only taste good but also healthy to eat too! :) Well you see I have friends who don't like to eat avocados and they always ask me why I love them so much. Haha. I always have some avocado shake, although I can't buy any of it now because it is seasonal. I don't really know how to keep avocados fresh for long but I suggest to put it in the refrigerator always, not in the freezer. That's only I think. Take care! :)

I rarely eat avocadoes. And when I do, I mash the pulp and add a bit of sugar. The flavour reminds me of ice cream somehow. It's a yummy taste and thanks for the info on the vitamin content. My Japanese friend uses avocado in sandwiches with mayonnaise, lettuce, tomato, and soya ham. I love her sandwiches.
