in what has got to be the most unlikely story this month, seemingly boris johnson, the cartoon mayor of london, saved franny armstrong (high profile climate campaigner) from a vicious attack by some kids. have you come across any stories that are probably true but so ridiculous they make you check you are looking at a news site and not the onion? and here is the full story of boris's heroism: http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2009/nov/03/boris-johnson-saves-franny-armstrong

some of the news TV channels here have developed an expertise to blow petty things out of proportion (complete with kaleidoscopic images and suspense thriller music).

sounds funny the first few times and then dreadful.

sounds reasonable. if you want stuff like that then actual horror movies might be a better option.

Hi jb, the one that comes to mind is the family in Colorado that decided to send their little boy in this makeshift silver balloon, well they didn't decide to send him, they pretended he snuck in and the balloon took off and everyone freaked out that the balloon had this little boy in it and then it turned out to be a hoax so the father could get on tv. It isn't as comical as riding to the rescue on a cycle but while the news was airing, it seemed pretty unbelievable and then all the more when it turned out to be a hoax.

oh the balloon boy - that hit international news. as light relief no doubt - pretty bizarre it was too.

Right away the people's names had me thinking it was a story. Never mind the story...

boris johnson is the conservative mayor of london. and a prat, although possibly more dangerous than he tries to appear. franny armstrong directed the age of stupid - a climate change documentary far better than the tripe al gore produced. different ends of the political spectrum, sort of, although the tories pay lip service to environmentalism.

You know this doesn't actually suprise me JB, I can see Boris cycling to the rescue with his ridiculous yellow hair straggling in the wind. Now to the more important point, has he actually done anything with his hair since becoming mayor and does he still spend ages hanging round on 'Have I got news for you'?
