Well, I'll definitely take medical leave when I am sick, as I can't really work and I prefer to take more rest. But I have some colleagues who do not really like to take a day off, even the doctor asked them to do so. I don't know if they are inconsiderate or they are too workaholic, the virus can actually spread to the whole office, and hence the doctor advised them to take medical leave, yet they still refuse to do so, as there are work to do. I'm thinking if there are work to do urgently, they can actually work from home, as our work is all computer-based. I feel quite worried especially when the swine-flu is so popular, and yet people do not take medical leave when they are sick.
Do you take medical leave when you are sick? Or is there any reason that you do not like to take day off? Isn't it faster to recover if you rest more when you are sick?

i do take leave when i am sick coz i'm worried that i might spread the germs to my officemates, and worst, to my boss. it's also a precautionary step to sanitize my telephone so that if anybody used it, they won't catch the disease.

I think companies send mixed signals to employees. On the one hand they say, "Oh please don't come to work if your sick. We can't afford to have you infecting the other employees." (This is true.) On the other hand most companies don't give out enough sick leave, if any, to their employees. Employees worry they'll use up the little sick leave they're given at which time they start losing wages. If the illness is severe and they're off for very long they also worry about losing their job. If they are lucky enough to still have a job when they get better, they are hit with a desk full of back work when they return. Let's face it, companies could care less if you're sick or not. They're just worried about the bottom line and how your illness is going to impact it.

Hey kaka135 Obviously when I fall ill/sick I avail my sick leave as you are aware that doctors are frequently advised to take bed rest during sickness. Some employee take sick leave without any illness and producing fake sick cert which seems to be wrong or illegal.

I don't go to work if I am really sick. My company has requested that we don't. Now there are a lot of people that will try to take advantage of this but they do want you to send a doctors excuse if you have to be out. Sometimes it is better to stay home and recover. It can be hard though if you are not paid for your leave.

in fact, from the time i begin to work, i seldom get sick. so, i never asked for days off cause being sick.
but if i were, maybe only when too serious, i think i will ask for it. after all, the health is very important. with sick health to work, maybe not only cant work well, but even will make more mistakes.

If I am given a Medical leave by the doctor, I will surely take it and rest and home. Now, not that I don't want to work, however staying home, I could also work from home, than going to the office and spreading any virus or bugs around. I would not want that when I recover, I have another colleague that gone into the same situation.
Anyway, if the doctor finds that I am unfit to work, I should just stay home right.. more over, how often do we get this kind of certification from the doctor..

well i'm one of them in fact i don't want to take a medicine easily as my own antibody will do that for me, except serious illness, but when i sick i usually take a rest rather than take a medicine, that's me as long as i can fight the ill ...

I have actually missed the last two days of work due to illness. I prefer to stay home at get rest so that when I go back I am 100% instead of trying to work while I am sick. I also work in a hospital so the encourage all of us to stay home if we are feeling sick so that we don't give the patients any new type of illness on top of what they already have. I think that it is very inconsiderate if a person knows that they are sick and contagious yet still show up to work so that they can share their illness with everyone else!

It depends upon the sickness,if i cannot tolerate already i will get sickleave, specially if i cannot work anymore, but for headache, fever, pain! So it depends upon the sickness. But with the infection that can spread to your collegues and co-workers it should be.But if its already swine flu it should be take medical leave because the route of transfer id through airborne, si you need to isolate yourself so you cannot transfer the diseases.

I don't take medical leave when I am sick. I can still work if I have a slight fever
or cold or cough. Unless I am very, very sick and that never happens. If I work I can claim meal allowance.

I will not take medical leave when I am sick unless i can move myself. The little sick does not effect my work, I think job is very important for me and also for other people.

Hi kaka! I always wanted to have a medical leave when I am sick. As for me, it is faster to recover when you rest rather than stay in the office. But policies in my company are getting worst now. You're not allowed to have medical leave (by resting at home) unless you will be hospitalized.
I remembered that i got diarrhea one time and can't stand the heck of it. I was vomiting within all day i stayed in the office and its kinda annoying. I hate it when my boss wouldn't allow me to go home because of our new policy. The next day after, i went to the doctor and because of the fluids I lost on my body, i was advised to be hospitalized. Good thing that the doctor find it valid for me to be admitted. I am not not that critical though but still i had my rest, not at home but at the hospital. :)
