As I stated in the past, our daughter and hubby are refinishing a room in our basement as a Christmas gift for us. This photo shows the room as of Today (Tuesday). There's a little more done now though. The walls are about 95% up. Insulation is about 50% done. The wires and outlets and light switch are set in place but not yet wired. Haven't decided pon a final choice for a light yet. It won't be this ugly bulb and string that's a given. It's looking good and getting warmer in that room. Lot's more to go yet. My daughter and son-in-law come over on Mondays when they can to work on it. I do some things on and off if I have the parts and or tools etc. Today I hung the last of the insulation I had here. Still need more yet. When was the last time you finished a basement for yourself or others?

I have never finished a basement, although my daughter in Minnesota has a nice one. I know that you are going to enjoy this lovely space they are giving you as a gift. It means so much when people give of themselves as part of their gifts.

it sounds as though you are well on track to celebrate christmas in your new basement. I would love a basement but not really possible where we live. we live near a river, well a big river actually, the Thames ! and I have visions of mini rivers trickling down our walls But its really wonderful for your daughter and hubby to refurbish the basement for you. I look forward to more updates. Is mrs. bob still planning to workout down there ? I use my cycling machine in our spare room. i also have a stepper.
us ladies have to keep fit

I live just a mile from the Mississippi River.
But in a high area free of floods.
So far anyhow.

They are doing a great job. I wouldn't know where to begin if I had to finish a basement. lol I'm not a good lady to put with tools...that could be a bad thing. I guess that's why if something messes up in our house my husband always fixes it. I can't wait to see it when they get finished.

We don't really have a lot of basements "around these parts". Hee hee, I used to hear that on western movies when I was a kid. Anyway, none of the members of my family have a basement to decorate. I always wanted my family to get a house with a basement. I'm so glad it is shaping up so nicely for you. Can't wait to see the finished project!

We have never lived where there are basements so I wouldn't know anything about them other than what I have seen on TV and read about. I would rather the work go slowly and make sure it is done right than have a rush job and then figure out things that should have been done a different way. Know what I mean? Oh I bet the insulation does make a huge difference already in there. I can just imagine a basement as being damp and cold without it.

We have septic issues so until we get sewer or a holding tank system ($25,000 I DON"T HAVE), or some huge repair of some sort?, or move we are pretty much outta luck.
I would really like to utilize our basement as more than a place to store plastic storage bins but we don't have the money and we don't have the choice to do the above so we could utilize it.

I have never finished a basement or seen it done but I would really like to do mine. It looks as if you've been doing a good job of insulating! As an added bonus, it'll keep your upstairs floors warmer because the basement won't be so cold!
My basement is painted nicely and has built in cupboards and a sauna but the concrete block walls are still concrete blocks! I'd like to finish my attic, too, but all that is a long time away!
Keep up the good work!

saw the room refinishing in progress! Now it is really starting
to look like a real room! I think that is going to be the best
Christmas gift ever! Can't wait to see the final project finished!
I think that was a really fantastic idea! I know that you and
your family will get plenty of use out of the space! You have
such a wonderful and thoughful family! And by the way, ask Minnie
when she plans on the adoption of the "Crazy Auntie Opal"!

Oh thanks! I'm so happy! Now I have a "real" family with
neices and nephews! I hope the room will be finished for
me by Christmas! Oh, yeah I'll need the info so I can book
the flight in time! Always wanted to see Minnesota and
your adorable house! Guess I'd better start doing alot
of saving for all those Christmas presents I'm going to
have to buy now that I have such a BIG family! Love, Auntie Opal

Never did anything like it Grandpa Bob! For one, we don't have a basement. He he he! However, I had my room done a few months back and had my bed custom made because I want a much bigger bed.My next project is repainting of my room. I would also like to have some expansion done but as it turned out it would be quite impossible as per assessment of the contractor. To be honest, I haven't done anything remotely near what your daughter and hubby have done for you. I just can't imagine the hard work and heart they have put into it. Also, never in my life I have made or constructed or repaired anything. Maybe because contractors here in my country come way way cheaper. I just buy the materials and pay the contractor a standard rate of $6/day...super cheap isn't it? Happy posting!

I've never done a room such as this or in the manner, it's always painting and that's it. I did have four rooms to paint and now am down to two, our bedroom and bathroom. I found a nice comforter set and curtains, now I can go get the paint color that I need to match. The bathroom, well, gotta find that one shower curtain before I know what color to paint in there. One of these days, I'll find one that stands out and grabs my heart.... I've been looking for the past year and haven't found anything just yet but it's out there somewhere......
