Do you sometimes eat with your fingers, no spoon or fork?

or you find the idea revolting. I do eat with my fingers. There are some dishes that are best eaten not using spoon and fork. When eating lobster and prawns, I find it enjoyable peeling them with my fingers. This is only when I am alone or with the family. When eating out in restaurants or parties, I follow the established way of using spoon and forks.
Any preference?

Depends on the food really. Although I HATE pizza when I do have to endure it I don't use my fingers. I use a fork, which drives my family crazy. I do think there are foods you have to eat with your fingers though. Most snack foods, and some raw fruits require it. I don't see anyone stabbing a potato chip or trying to pick it up with a spoon. If I did, I would so be amused for awhile.=)

I have yet to see someone eating potato chips using spoons. LOl that must be something. Yes, I agree that some foods are really best eaten using hands instead of using silverwares. Fruits especially the kinds that need to be peeled before eating. That's a good observation about eating snack foods. Most of them are eaten using hands, I know. LOL

I would use a spork, sporks are dying out I need to get ahold of some and sell them on ebay...lol
Hey I know alot of Indians eat spicy food with their hands are at least I was lead to believe that.
One day I hope to become really good at using chop sticks.
I have a unique way of eating I eat with the plate as in bring the whole thing to my mouth and from off the edge if the food allows.
Also I may take a fork and pick up the whole steak, eat off of it instead of cutting it up.

Yes, I eat with my fingers at home and sometimes at the restaurant or fast foods if I am going to eat fried chicken or lobsters/shrimps. Wow! Many customers like me use their hands eating fried chicken. No preference if it makes you enjoy your food using your fingers.

Yes, there are foods and dishes that are best eaten with fingers. Lobsters and prawns and crabs, too. Shellfishes are eaten with fingers. When at the beach, we use fingers especially for grilled seafood and some agricultural products such as sweet potato and banana. Of course, we don't do that in restaurants but instead use spoon and fork. But have you noticed that there is a rise in restaurants which are in "kinamot" (using fingers) style?

We have a lot of things in common my friend. I have yet to go to a "kinamot" restaurant. "kamay kamayan" yes, is that a Visayan version? it sounds like it is. Yes, it's no fun eating sweet potato with a spoon, with fork, maybe, especially when it is steaming hot and fresh from the pot.
Some people will be horrified to see you eating with your fingers in restaurants. People will be looking at you wondering which mountain did you come down from. LOL
But mind you, many of them are doing it at home too, sometimes with their feet up.
hahaha.

hahahaha, with feet up... I think you are seeing me like that. Yes, that is the Visayan version of "kamay-kamayan". I now wonder if there is a feet version, too? hahahaha

I do it most of the time, especially at home. If I go out, then I just have to mind my manner. If you ask me, I love eating with my fingers. Its more fun and I enjoy the food.

Yes, I eat with my fingers sometimes. Some things are easier to eat with fingers instead of using forks and spoons. Hamburgers and french fries and sloppy joes and sandwiches and chicken tenders, etc are easier eaten with fingers.

Yes!I eat most of the times with my fingers when I am at home but outside I also always use spoons or forks.I feel good eating with spoons and forks but my parents say that one should eat with fingers too because of the juices that go inside the body while eating with fingers which is not there while using spoons or forks, so health wise its good to eat with fingers and hygienically i think with spoons.

Hi manong! as you say, there are some dishes that you really need to use your fingers and hands to eat. Not to mention that in several cultures to eat with your hands is considered the norm and not to use table ware. I dont know about you, but when Im eating like mmmm a good fried chicken, or some porkchops with some dripping sauce... hot lobster, a hamburger, things like that, you dont enjoy with a fork or spoon. I know friends of mine who dont eat at all with forks spoons or a knife because they say they dont like the taste of metal in their mouths. That it kills the food´s flavor.. go figure!
Those kind of foods that you have to eat with hands, for some reason, I think it may even taste better at times since you are enjoying it like a kid would!
Have a nice mylot day!

Oh sorry, I forgot to add that their is a time and place for everything. If I have to use the fork or spoon in the times and places that its the norm, I have to use it and do apply the proper etiquette...
But I still like to eat with my fingers some things. It has to do with feeling the warm texture of the food I guess!
Have a nice mylot day.

yeah right!I sometimes also eat with my fingers!!Especially when I'm home and when I eat dry foods. It's really satisfying. When I was younger , we used to eat with our fingers because that's how my parents are used to. Even when we eat something with soup, we do still use our fingers. However, as time passed by and when I learn how to mingle with other people especially when I started schooling, I found out that eating with spoon and fork is more elegant than using fingers. Well, when eating out in a restaurant, I then follow the standard way, even if the food must be eaten with fingers, I do still use knife or something rather than using my fingers. It actually depends upon the situation and the occasion. Still, using spoon and fork every meal, is the best way for me to eat considering the formality and the ethics of eating as well as the table manners. But, as I've said, I do also consider eating with my fingers especially when the food is finger lickin' good.:)

Sometimes you just need to get in there with your fingers and dig in. I think that there are a lot of foods where it is accepted to eat with your fingers and skip the fork and knife. I have done it many times at restaurants and have seen many other people doing it at restaurants.

Yes, I eat chicken with my fingers it is easier than trying to cut with a fork and knife. I would also eat shrimp and clam with my fingers. There are lots of food that are easier to eat by using your fingers instead of a fork, spoon and knife.

Yes I do eat with my hands at times. There are some foods such as fried chicken, or snacks like chips that would be so horrible to eat with utensils. I also have a habit of drinking my soup from a coffee mug not eating it with a spoon out of a bowl.

Yes I do eat with my fingers sometimes only when I am at home or with the family. When I am eating prawn, crabs and lobster it still feels good to it when you peel them with your fingers. I do not know how to peel them with fork and knife that is why I don't order them in the restaurants.
Even eating pizza some are using fork and knife. But I am not. I ate them with my fingers.

Yes, I think most people have meet these foods that are best eaten with fingers instead of spoon or fork.
As you have said above, when I am alone or with the family, it is unnecessary to follow the established way of using spoon and forks, then I tend to eat them with my fingers, which can bring us another amazing feelings. Sometimes, it is really not connevient to eat some foods with spoon and fork, so it seems that we have formed a habit of using our fngers.
Although it is an imploite or bad habit, we can enjoy a better time without any restriction.

I can't say that it is impolite of bad habit either. It may be against social conventions in many places especially in fine dining restaurants but then again it is acceptable in other areas so it really depends on the food and in the situation.
cheers!

When I was around 8 or 9 years old, I used to eat yogurt with my fingers. I probably would have continued to do so if my Grammy hadn't told me that I was too old to be doing that and that it was disgusting. Nowadays, I always eat with forks and spoons (unless it's a finger food of course).
