It was yesterday that I came up with the idea to install ( I didn't say buy...) windows 7. Installing was a quick and easy, with ease I browsed around my computer to check the new features. I found out the changes aren't big but they are important. Windows 7 is way faster than windows vista. Where windows vista gave me problems from the first second on, windows 7 works great and is a true blessing. When are you going to buy windows 7? What system do you run now? Vista? XP? Tell me everything you have to say regarding windows 7. :)

I haven't tried Windows 7 and I haven't read much about it so I'm not familiar with it's features. But I'm happy to hear people saying it's good just because Microsoft won't support XP forever.

What happens when windows stop supporting xp? You mean they will not release updates anymore? It looks similar to vista except for the taskbar which has been completely revamped.

Not that I am aware of no. But you can install all kinds of themes. Furthermore windows 7 ultimate comes with a mini xp version intended for programs that don't run on windows vista or 7.

I'm a pc technician and now currently studying com.sci., i've already tried win 7, it's true that it has more useful features and tools... but for me the first thing that you should consider is the system requirements before installing win7, of course, you cannot install win7 if you do not meet the sys req. for it..., for windows vista it's true that it's very sensitive when it comes to software installations, what's good for vista is it's appearance, in terms of performance i cannot guarantee vista. for now i'm using winXP because my system is only good for using this operating system and even though win xp doesn't have the built-in features of win vista and win 7, you can install them by tweaking... and also what counts here is the affordability of the product... but to answer your question YES win7 is much better than vista and xp...

My computer is good enough for windows 7. Some people say that if you can run windows xp pretty well you can run windows 7 as well, after all you can disable all the memory munching options and work with a stripped version of windows 7 that's even faster than xp. :)

I experience to use windows 7 and found out it is better, faster than vista. I agree with you in what you say here. Windows 7 is faster than vista and but there are features in vista that is not in windows 7...They very different, my friend. But I like windows 7 than vista...but now I still using xp because this is suitable with my pc...I will install windows 7 if I bought a new computer next time...Have a great day!

I do agree with you, my friend. Windows 7 has more compatibility option than windows vista. I can't actually tried windows 7 but I use it once and see the difference between vista...

Windows 7 has all the things vista has, without the mess, and more! Windows 7 ultimate even has the option to run XP, built-in, so that you can run programs that only run under xp. It's a little like the xp compatibility mode windows 7 and vista has but then more sophisticated.

I bought a laptop recently and it has vista, I haven't had any problems with it but I want to install windows 7, which seems to be more efficient. I haven't heard any bad comments so I'll go for it. Fortunately I had a free windows 7 update with my laptop, so I just paid the shipping. It should be delivered withn the next week.

So after all it isn't really free. But it's cheaper than the oem or the retail version. Good luck with windows 7 and please report back on your findings. ;)

What was your problem with vista? What attracted you first in W7? And I'm still running on Xp by the way.

Vista made my computer very slow. Not so severe in the beginning but things got worse later on. Then I decided to install windows 7. What a difference. :) It's just way faster even with all graphic options enabled. The search option in w7 is faster than vista too. By the way my laptop has 1 gb ram, 1.9 gh processor, 256 mb shared graphics card.

If you want Windows 7 there is no need for you to buy you can just download this as long as you have there internet connection. If you PC is Pentium Dual Core Class only I think its not good for Windows 7 better sticked with you Xp so that you don't have problem. Windows Vista alone have so many issue beside Windows 7 is still beta.

Downloading windows 7 is illegal in almost all countries in the world, including Holland. ( downloading software without paying is forbidden, downloading music however is not) So that's why I mentioned buying instead of downloading, of course I downloaded mine, I am not going to pay for something I can get for free as well. Windows 7 is, by the way, not in beta anymore, the first global public release was in the Dutch village of Zevenhuizen, where windows offered 777 free windows 7 packages. ( zeven means seven)

I’m using XP both at office and at home. I had thought of getting Vista for my home PC but I too heard negative feedback on it and thus backed out. XP is running just fine so I don’t know about 7…and then I have to take the cost factor in mind too! My new PC is just 5 months old and I don’t want to install a new system just now.

Waiting is an option, but don't wait until microsoft has stopped supporting xp, unless you don't give too much about privacy and security. Just a word of warning.

I am not going to install Windows 7 on my current machine. It was build around Windows XP and works very well with XP. I like XP and much prefer it to Vista, that I have installed on my laptop. Derek

I don't know what will happen when the support stops with XP, but at the moment, I am getting all updates etc. If there are problems later, then I won't have a great deal of choice other than to upgrade, but at least by then the new system will be well tried and tested. - Derek

You could of course also consider going for a pirated version, when the risks aren't too big in your country of course. Your son is right, windows 7 is absolutely better than vista, where vista had compatibility programs with an awful lot of drivers, windows 7 doesn't even require me to install drivers.

I do not have any form of Windows anymore. I used to have Windows XP for years, but now I use the Kubuntu operating system. It is Linux freeware, so you can legally download a complete operating system that is far better than Windows for free! Updates and online support are free and easily available! It comes with all the office programs that Microsoft make you pay extra for and is better supported! There is no need to be trapped into buying Microsoft products. They have ruled the computer world for far too long and more people are starting to realise now that there are other options out there.

The issue when using Kubuntu is the compatibility with Windows programs, you can't run them under kubuntu yet that's an absolute must for a lot of people. It might be a good alternative but not for many.

You'll get windows 7 on your computer in a few years anyway, xp won't be supported for too long, vista however will still be supported for a few years, but yeah vista is absolutely messy stuff and can't be purchased in a few years anymore, luckily...

This computer will not support windows-7 without major system upgrade, and doubt if I'll be able to buy new for years. and I'm not upto changing operating systems, at this time.

I installed the beta and now RC of Windows 7 and I found that it has major performance changes compared to vista and XP. I also found that it had no compatibility problems with many old software and games. THe graphics became just great with new DirectX11 and Windows Media Player 12 made movies and audio just great. Coming to buying it, since Microsoft is providing support till next year, I am not in plan of buying it, not atleast till next year.

That's so great about windows 7, I expected loads of driver problems so I backed my old drivers up, and started installing windows 7, I booted up and voila, it worked just fine without loading the back up or installing anything!

Hi diamania, im not gonna buy it, but instead just gonna get it. And not pirated, the thing is my university gives their students windows 7 completely free. Im gonna try to check it out tomorrow and lets hope i could find it(im not sure where i have to go to check out my copy). It seems like a good improvement to what vista is. Oh by the way, im using vista, and im not so pleased with it, so definetely gonna change it. See ya and happylotting

Please report back on your findings, once you have windows 7 installed. Don't forget to strip the graphics otherwise, and this depends on your computer too, your computer might unnecessarily slow down as well. You don't need that glas aero layer, it's just food for the eye, not for your computer.

I generally only change operating systems when I change computers, I am currently using XP, and have an old computer that uses windows 2000(rarely use it now). My dad has Vista, and though it has some good features it seems to crash a lot. So I prefer XP for now, and I will probably get W7 later, I saw the beta version and it seemed much more stable and resilient then Vista. Hope it works well for you.

XP is a good operating system as well, especially for older computers xp stays pretty fast even if your computer starts to clutter. If you have the option to upgrade to windows 7, I'd advice you to do so. :)

When you're happy with xp and find it fast enough then staying with xp is a good choice as well. Be aware that microsoft will stop supporting xp pretty soon, which means your computer might turn into a honeypot. Something which you should avoid by any means.

I would indeed upgrade your computer indeed. You'll notice that windows 7 is remarkably faster than vista, also better looking because microsoft has added some graphics for high end computers to make windows 7 even easier to use, if your computer is a little to slow for those graphics you can always disable it, like i did. I don't need all the fancy stuff... ;)

XP, is a fine operating system too, perhaps even better than vista, vista makes your computer very slow. Games even need extra resources to run solid under vista compared to xp.

XP is better than vista, except for the graphics, which I didn't like when I had xp. The problem is that computers with xp turn into honeypots after a while. Meaning that your computer is likely to get attacked and taken over.

I was thinking about purchasing Windows 7 after Christmas. I run Vista right now, and after I removed most of the gadgets, I didn't seem to have a problem out if it other than slow start-up. Then when Windows 7 was released several of my friends ran out to get it. So far I have heard nothing but good things about it. Only one had a complaint and said they still prefer XP. I figure the least I can do is try it. With everyone loving it, I am sure I will too.

What is it they are complaining about? The only complain I have is the changed taskbar which in the end is handy, but not when you just start working with it, you're just like: "woooaaah, screens are disappearing" while they're just available but under another group.
