I have visited the Maldives three years ago. I spent my first week on Asdu Island and then had a couple of days in Male, the capital. Then I took a flight to Gan Island and spend a week there. I loved flying there on the tiny plane because I saw lots of lovely little islands and the reef. It is certainly a paradise and for anyone going to suggest taking lots of money. I was a fully independent traveler there and it was very expensive. For anyone that likes the Maldives they will enjoy it in the Seychelles as well I think.

I visited in the January on that year. Yes, it was an adventure. I liked it in Male and lived a bit like a local person there. I took a ferry over to another island. Tourists are only let to some islands in the Maldives. On the islands a single room is $70 to $100 a night budget standard. In Male a single room in a guest house is only $20 to $30 a night.

Well my friend I am sorry to say you were ripped off. If you are referring to a local Island the room should have cost you less than in male' about $5. If it was a near by resort should have been $ 30 to 100 for room rate depending on the star of the resort. I do apologize that it happened in my country. Here people are quite friendly but sometimes people like to rip of foreigners. Three years ago it should have been even cheaper. I do agree that there are services that cost you the sky if you are looking for high standards but not for adopting Island life or being a local. Hope you have a better experience next time.

Thank you Maximax, There are very cheap packages offered depending on your budget and what you are looking for. Being and independent traveler is not something I would suggest for Maldives unless you seek lot of adventure... Also rates are very cheap during the low season. Which is something like from March to August.

Hi there fairyprinces! I see that you are fairly new here to myLot, so let me take this opportunity to send out a great big "WELCOME" your way. I am not familiar with Maldives. Where is it located? Is it a country, or a city within a country? Please share with us where this is located. It sounds like a beautiful place. Even more sunshine than Las Vegas from what I can tell. Maybe I will have to do a little research on that since travel is one of my favorite subjects. Thanks for any help you may be able to give and have a great day!

The Maldives is in the Indian Ocean. It is situated below India. It is a country made up of tropical islands. The capital is called Male. The climate is tropical so it is hot all year long. It is popular with divers and people that like paradise like beaches.

Dear Kykidd, Thank you so much. I am very new and just figuring out stuff... The next response is really a justification about Maldives. Its just a beautiful small group of islands located in the Indian Ocean. Some people refer the islands as the garland of Indian Ocean. Its truly beautiful and has untouched beauty to offer the nature lover. For divers and surfers its an under water paradise. For honey mooners its romance and privacy throughout your holiday. For busy workers its an escape from the hectic life. You name it we have it. Let me know if you have any specific queries?
