I am offering my writer friends a few of the opening lines from my published short stories -- 'Dolphin Girl and Other Stories'. I invite you to write an opening paragraph of a short story. Make sure it's not non fiction. I will evaluate each response free. (By the way, many of these stories began with opening lines picked up at random from various sources! They're a great writing prompt.) Pick any one of the following: 1. Each time I passed her by in the store window,I left my heart behind. 2.They are gathering wild scarlet poppies beneath the trees heavy with orange blossom. 3.Deep in the Amazonian forest, the Ucayali River boiled beneath the lightning storm. 4. Rachel did not know how long she'd been running. 5.The wooden gate etched with dawn light remains closed on the green, rolling meadows, no matter how hard I concentrate on swinging it open. Best of Luck and don't feel shy!
