I just finished reading an article in Forbes magazine where the author is discussing what microsoft does in order to get us to purchase their operating systems. Over the years I have used three of their systems and purchased other programs with their label on them. At the present time I am using microsoft XP and I'm very happy with it. One of my sons purchased Vista when it first hit the market and he was very unhappy with it. You might say he "fell into microsoft's trap." He was using XP before but thought, since it was put out by microsoft, it would be a great operating system. He wished he was back to using XP. Now they came out with "Microsoft 7" and he purchased it, hoping to solve the problems he was having with Vista. The author of the Forbes article contends that in order to move product, they brought out Vista to replace XP and it had a lot of bugs in it. So, they started selling "7" which is a sized down version that runs great. He believes that they will soon come out with "8". What do you think?

I agree. Yes there will be an 8, and a 9, and so on. I started with DOS and WIN 3.1, had 98SE and bought the ME upgrade which was a serious error as the thing was a resource hog with many problems and few improvements. We currently have 3 systems with 3 different flavors of Windows. My wife is running Media Center which is a version of XP Pro, and I have XP Home on one and Vista Home Premium on this one. This Vista is a real hog... even with 3 gb of memory and a dual core processor, there are times when the memory runs out. I eventually plan to go to Win 7, but the price is rather steep for the full version, and I will never buy another OEM version of anything again. XP is a very good OS, and does everything that we want it to.

It looks like you ran the same track that I ran. I started with DOS,Win3.1,98,ME I think ME was the worst for me. I'm happy with XP and will probably stay with it. Two of my sons had the same problem with Vista and had to upgrade to 7. It looks like a good "rip-off" plan for Microsoft.
