Verizon's new early termination fee...

Yesterday I read an article on Yahoo that mentioned that Verizon is doubling up on its early termination fee to like $300 or more. I think this is crazy. The article didn't say whether this would be for new customers, or for present customers that maybe want new phones and have to enter into a new contract.
I think that this is ridiculous. I mean really, we are paying enough for our plans and if after a year and I'm tired of a company's service, I have to pay 5 months of bills just to get out of the contract?
Does anything think this is wrong?

I also heard about this yesterday. What the local news in my area stated is that it is for all customers. That people wishing to upgrade their phones prior to the end of their service contract could be subject to stiff penlties.

Wow, that is outrageous. You would think that Verizon would want to keep customers for the long run and not piss them off to move to another company.

I think that what Verizon is doing is outrageous. I am with Verizon too, but if they keep this up, I am certainly not going to stay with them, that is for sure. In other words from what I am gathering, is that if a customer wants to upgrade their phone to a better one, and their contract isn't up, they will have to pay penalties? Please correct me if I am worng, but I sure don't think that is fair. I upgrde my phone every year, but it looks now, like I will have to forego doing that at all. I don't understand all this, as they will lose customers, and not keep them by doing what they are doing. If they want new customers. then they need to give better customer service. They will lose a lot of customers that is for sure, and I may end up being one of them. Take care, and happy mylotting.

I agree with everything you said here Rosekiss. It seems as though if a customer wants to stay with Verizon, upgrade their phone for a better one, then why penalize them for that. It doesn't make sense. I know that some people never change phones, but some people like variety. And just because you decide to change your phone you shouldn't be socked with a huge fee. It just isn't right.
