as an avid sports fan, it's good to recognize the athletes that make our countries proud in international competition. and although basketball is the most popular sport in the Philippines, there is no doubt as of the moment that Manny Pacquiao is the sports icon. How about your in country, what kinds of sports are popular? and who do you consider as your sports icon?

Yup, your right about that, Manny Pacquiao is making his name in the history of boxing. Do you know what are the divisions that he is holding? I don't know what they are, just curious, and I think it will be his 8th? Cotto is underestimating our boxer, hope Manny will win this fight for all of us Filipinos. LOL. Proud to be Pinoy!

actually Manny has held 6 legitimate world titles (since "The Ring" title that he earned by defeating Barrera doesn't count as a sanctioning body thus it is not considered a world title) his 6 division titles are as follows: WBC flyweight title, IBF super bantamweight title/WBO super bantamweight title, WBC International super featherweight title, WBC super featherweight title, WBC lightweight title, IBO lightwelterweight title. Trivia for you, Manny Pacquiao is the ONLY fighter in boxing history to have 4 titles in the 8 ORIGINAL boxing weight classes. And he is gunning for his 7th division title against Cotto to surpass Oscar Dela Hoya who he is tied with currently at 6-division champion.

my bad, The Ring was recognized as a title, swap that with the "International" title and it will be all good... ^_^

I think sport icon of China would be Yao Ming or Liu Xiang. If you are familiar with those names, then I made a right choice. Soccer might be the most popular sport, but it's definitely the most disappointing sport, too. Table tennis and basketball is also very popular here.

China really is well known for table tennis, it's not far fetched that you consider Liu. I think Yao is definitely and icon for China because of his international exposure. and i do agree, soccer is said to be the most popular but i rarely get the urge to watch it. Maybe that's just because of the orientation of our region since the "World Cup" is still the biggest sport thing in Europe.
