Do You Still Lick Your Plate When You're Done Eating?

I remember I used to like everything off my plate when I was a kid, just like our sons dog does. My mom was such a good cook. Well that went on for a few years and then one day it was time to stop but now I use a slice of bread to do the plate clean up for me. Do you still lick your plate?

If the dish is yummy, I still wipe out the plate and lick off the fingers. It tastes better than the main dish.

It really does taste better than the entire dish doesn't it? I guess it's like all the little good bits that get left in the frying pan after cooking. I love to make a tasty sauce with those little bits.

I do not do it always, only when the food I ate is really yummy and left with no more to serve my self. But then I don't it in front og ma parents as they will scold me ...

My son licks his plate every now and then but I don't bother telling him not to. That wouldn't be fair if I do it and won't let him. :)

It may not be good table manners but it is some good. I don't do this in public as I am sure I would get some horrified people starring at me. Only in the privacy of your home. :)

I don't think licking the plate is any good table manners. Though we did do some mistake or if we did, it's not right to let our children also get along with that. We should correct them. We should teach them the good manner and let them get use to bad manners just be coz we were like that in our small ages...

Well I would say that you should give it a try. Maybe when no one else is at home so you don't embarass yourself too much. It's fun and if you do it right maybe you won't even need to do the dishes. Okay you will still have to do the dishes.

I don't believe I ever licked my plate. I can't remember ever doing it as a kid. I think that was because my mom would never have stood for it. She would always tell my sister and I to eat like grown ups and have table manners. So licking the plate would not go over that well. So I never got into the habit of it, and don't do it now. In fact, I think its a bit gross.

That's to bad. Parents need to teach kids manners of course but they also need to teach them that they can have fun once in a while. I have done it all my life and so has my son, but we still have the best manners when we are out or have company. We can do both. Give it a try.

I use to do it and now i am now an adults. I rarely do it. But, licking never goes away, as i lick my spoons and fork. I do licking most of the times when eating ice cream, chocolates, jams, jellies, lollipop and foods which are sticky most of the times.

I still like to be the one that gets the bowl after a cake has been made. I usually have to race against my son to get it though.

WebMann I dont want to be a kill joy or anything but have to say that I find even the idea of licking a plate repulsive. I was raised in the military (Dad was a lifer in the Marines) and if we had ever done that, we would have been told to leave the table while undergoing some very harsh criticism. No, that would have never flown in my house. I don't think the thought of doing so ever crossed my mind anyway. We have two legs, not four. sorry..

You don't have to be sorry. There is nothing wrong with seeing it as repulsive, that's why I brought the subject up. :)

i just thought that only dogs do that.well, i do that too especially when i eat barbecues. it makes me happy doing that but only at home and with friends. i learned that from friends. Create opportunities for your family to remember each other and good times.

Mmmm BBQ. I need a bib when it comes to BBQs. I love licking my fingers off. I sometimes grab my wife's hand and lick her fingers off as well. But I only do that when we have company. It's always good for a laugh.
