Okay now that I have your attention...No nothing really major or drastic but I find it kind of upsetting. Now you may or may not be an Oprah Winfrey fan but I love her show...She's had many great shows with great topics and had in the past featured Dr. Oz whom I'm a great fan (wish I could find a great compassionate informed doc like him). Now I just heard on the news she's considering moving her regular network show to a cable program. What's the big deal you might ask? I DON'T HAVE CABLE. Yes folks I'm one of the few oddballs not to have cable...it was a toss up...pay the cost of cable and no internet access or pay for internet and no cable--guess what won? Besides I don't even watch that much TV, save a few programs including Oprah.
Now I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one that doesn't have cable...so if you are a fan of Oprah......write her...tell her you oppose the idea of her moving to cable which would leave us that don't have cable missing her programs. Contact her via her own website.
Are you a fan of Oprah Winfrey Show...if she moved to cable would it affect you? Protest her intentions...I did.
Contact her here.

With everything being online nowadays, can't you watch her show online if she moves to cable?

wow! Ya know, Oprah visited our area was it last year? or year before? Did a show about Pembroketownship/Hopkins Park. How they are one of the poorest towns in the states. I didn't and still don't have TV so I never got to watch her show and see what she had to say about it all.

For her to be making a move like that, the cable networks must be offering her something that she doesn't have now. Maybe more say in the subject matters she talks about? All may no be lost for you though, even with the possible move. Many commercial and cable network shows are available to watch online now. You might check that out if she does make a change. With cable companies also being internet providers, you are going to see more and more of that.

There are some shows one can watch on-line, usually shows like Grey's Anatomy etc. but not hers--in fact none of the daytime shows as far as I can tell are shown on-line

I can't imagine it would be the station canceling her contract...she's a big money maker for them

Hi pye,
I used to watch Oprah, a long time ago but we can no longer get the channel she is on or, we cannot have cable in our area at the moment, don't know why as everyones else in the UK can, but if she is moving to Cable, it may mean she will be getting more money, and you know go else whare if they can get more money.
Bright Blessings.

Hi pyewacket, I must say I was quite pleased when I saw that Oprah had reached Greek tv a few years back. Unfortuantely it was the most awful case of dubbing I've ever seen and proved quite impossible to watch. You could hear Oprah saying a couple of words in American and then it was immediately dubbed into unsynchronised Greek, the whole thing was an utter shambles. Why they couldn't just have left it alone and put sub titles on.

I hate when they do a dubbing thing even for movies and agree they should use subtitles instead

I am not a fan of Oprah and I have cable but I want to wish you all the luck on your campaign. It doesn't make any sense to move her from network t.v. At cable she will be lost among all the different programing. Suggestion. Check and see if you can watch her online. Good Luck.

Well, I'm not a fan of Oprah, but my friend is. She has cable, so I guess it wouldn't affect her. But I think you can see some of her shows via the internet. At any rate, I know my friend manages to catch some that way when she comes over to use the internet. (I'm like you, can only afford one, and prefer internet.)

i am a huge fan of oprah too. but here in the philippines we don't see her show in any local channel. it is in the local cable channel too. so if we don't have cable we can't watch it. but i don't watch it any more cause i don't know what cable channel she is in my local cable. she used to be televised in one local tv long time ago but since it was taken out of teh local channel and got moved to cable channel i have hard time remembering what cable channel i can see her and what time. and specially kind of mixed the channels in our tv so it is really hard to memorize on what channel goes to what channel. you know what should be on channel 6 for cable because of some problem with my tv channeling you would see the cable 6 on like cable 24 and so every thing is mixed up and it can't follow the channel assigned by our local cable company. but other tv is working well and does not mixed up the channel but i got tired to trace where in channel i should watch her as i often switch tv as i change location in my place. sometimes i am on my living room sometimes in my bed room. so i have to memorize the channel on one tv and the channel on the other tv though it is same station but different channel on tv.
just gave up to follow her on cable.

I know this lady, my friend. But I don't actually watch her shows because I feel her show is for female only and I don't like to watch those topics...
I don't oppose the show of oprah but not watch it, my friend. Have a nice day!

Well sounds like getting cable may be in order, if you want to continue following it. It stinks cause of the cost but what is one to do if you want them little things in life that makes your life better and fun eh?

I think you should write to her and see what happens, maybe she would realize that she will loose a great fan and people who are not up to the cost of monopoly in cable charges.

..Hi there pyewacket, I think Oprah does a lot of good things, she has a big heart.
I only watch every now and then, my sister watches every single day as do many others. If she moves her program, you should be fine because you would be able to get cable on your pc as you can now. There is a company that offers cable on your pc for a one time charge of $49.98, I believe. I wrote it down for future reference. The name is satellitedirect.com, look them up on the net and make sure I am correct. Take it easy.

I checked that site and as far as I can tell there is no means of getting cable on the computer....also from what I saw the charges they do is monthly not one time fee..also I have a Mac computer so many times what's available for PCs isn't for Mac users

I can understand your upset over this. My sister loves her to bits! She watches this show like all the time and though I've not really watched that much of her show, I do respect this lady. She's like super intelligent, her shows are engaging and oh yeah, Dr. Oz..I wish I have a family doctor like that too, just living a few steps from my home.. Would she listen to the protest? I do know that she's a very fair lady when it comes to making important decisions. Perhaps she would change her mind after all. How much is cable over there? I don't have one too, but my sis does. She loves it so much and if I'm not mistaken, she watches it over on Hallmark. She pays around $30-$40 per month just so she could watch all these talk-shows, like Jay Leno, David Letterman and also Oprah..

I was actually one of the early ones to get cable back in 1983 and had it until 2006----like I said I'm on SSI benefits ($761 a month for everything)...it was either cable tv or internet....rather have internet

I went for a long time without cable. I finally decided that I would rather pay for cable, telephone, and the internet all on one bill and have high powered internet, good telephone service and entertainment enough for all the family and not have to pay the high fees they charge now for movies. I am a huge fan of Oprah although I go through times that I watch something else OR I actually am out living LIFE during the time she on. BUT, she is on twice daily in our neck of the woods which I was coming to. If they move our pal Oprah to a cable station I will bet you she will be on other stations as well. With her popularity and all her following I doubt they will let you stay out of the loop for long.

She's broadcast twice a day also here...at the usual time of 4 in the afternoon, when I'm usually out, and then around 1:00 a.m. which is when I catch her show---I just hope she realizes that a lot of people don't have cable

It's not all that unusual to see talk show hosts move on to the cable network. I remember when Bill Mahr was fired from ABC and had to move to cable, where he was slightly more free to express his views. Perhaps this will open Oprah up to more shows that perhaps won't be so censored.
You should be able to view her shows on her website though, I believe she has each episode each week. Or, you can try to track her on Youtube where people may have put up videos of her work. If you know someone that can record her shows for you perhaps they can send you a DVD of her day to day stuff each week so you can view it.

Nope one can't watch full episodes on her website and I just checked the ABC website...yes one can watch most night-time shows on it like Lost, Grey's Anatomy but not hers. Anyway I really have no interest watching TV on my computer as I'm in front of it nearly all the time--rather watch TV shows on TV where I can be more comfortable

I'm not a fan of Oprah's at all. But I have not heard this news of her going to cable. I am actually one of those people without cable also, but I do just quite fine without it and plus I now have my internet. We have a plasma tv and we catch quite a few channels. But anyway, hopefully for you and the sake of her other fans she does not move her show to the cable. Just for the fact like you said that people without cable can still view her show.

Like I said I don't watch much TV and seemed to be glued more in front of the computer, yet her show is the one of the few I do watch...so I would hate it if she did decide to move her show to a cable network

I don't watch her all the time....I usually look on and see what the show is about to make my decision between her, Ellen and Peoples Court....If all fails with them two Peoples Court is a good one in my books....some of the people is such idiots and then you have the very smart and faithful watchers who come prepared. I have satellite and wonder is she does make this change will it become part of my package...She may concern herself with this....Isn't ratings based on how many people watch and if you can not get you can not watch.

Yes all shows gain ratings when people watch, so she would lose a lot of people if she makes the move to cable
