My kitten died for unknown reason? When was the last time you had a pet die?

It was really such a sad sight. i saw my kitten now eating for some days. i tried to check on my kitten as to why he does not want to eat any thing that i give him and after 3 days he died. i didn't bring him to a vet as i am quite shy to bring a kitten to a vet. as here in my country, we don't really put that much care for pets like for stray cats. this is the kitten born from a stray cat i fed from time to time before. i was expecting this kitten to grow up as a strong cat like the first kitten i cared for and now a big cat which is still alive and still i care and feed this cat. Anyways, as i was saying i was kind of shy to bring my kitten to the doctor. as not much people will bring their cat to a vet. like people here mostly just let their cats or kittens die if it get sick. they will try to feed them or give them medicine by themselves but not to the extent of bringing them to the doctor. so it is not a usual practice and i feel that my kitten will not survive anyways, so i just let the cat die naturally. i tried my best to care and feed my kitten . i love my kitten as it was a very cute kitten. with black and white fur.

It was two years ago Christmas that I had to have my Rottweiler Hannibal put down. He had been tormented by my granddaughter and he bit her. My daughter went ballistic and ordered me to have the dog put to sleep. The horrible part of the situation is that her mother in law's dog has bitten the grand children, my daughter, son in law, her owner, neighbors, and anyone else she can reach with her teeth- including me- and my daughter NEVER ordered her mother in law to put the dog to sleep. I still cry over losing Hannibal. It sounds like maybe the kitten had distemper. While it is extremely difficult accepting the loss of a pet, it helps a lot knowing that it wasn't something that you did to cause him to die. I lost a kitten to distemper and it sounds exactly like the symptoms that your kitten showed. The only thing that the vet could have done for the kitten is to put the kitten to sleep. Distemper is a savage disease that causes high temperatures in the cat or kitten which will ultimately lead to brain damage and will affect the cat for the rest of its life. You saved the kitten the stress and terror of a trip to the vet. My sympathies are with you. I have four cats and four dogs right now and they all send their love and hugs during the time of sadness at the loss of your kitten. One word of advice, if the kitten was in your home, don't bring another kitten into the house for at least 6 weeks. It takes that long for the germs from the disease to die off.

I can understand your situation. While American's may seem like very wealthy people, there are the poorer people. Unfortunately I do fall into that sector. I had an on the job injury and am on very limited funds. My first expenditure each month is for the animal food. I got to figuring how much I spend for food for me, and it amounts to about $8.50 a week. I have had to take beloved pets into the dog pound and have them put down that way, claiming that they were strays. I cried all the way home because of the fact that I couldn't honor them the way I really wanted to. I cry each time I think of it. I've had good cries about Hannibal...still even though it's been two years. I send you much love and understanding about your situation, as well as I send hugs from my herd. I have four cats and four dogs...I would have more if I could afford them. One of the dogs is a friends dog that I am taking care of for her while she is figuring out her marriage. In short, after a year, it is really my dog. Especially since I am paying totally for her upkeep. Take care of you, and your furry buddy. Mine send their love and hugs.

i could feel your grief when you gave your pets to dog pound. how do they put dogs to sleep in your country. as i never heard or seen any one here doing that to their pets. was it something like an injection to put them into sleep. at least it is painless if it is done that way.

It might have been worms. Usually that is why they die. Or he was separated from his mom to early and still needed to be nursed by her. There are a many of number of things that could cause this in a kitten especially a stray that you dont know what the conditions were of the mother.

I'm sorry about your pet kitten. I do so wish it did not happen, but everything is in God's hands. I have my pets dying on and off, the cats especially. I have given the cats freedom to roam around, and sometimes, they just don't come back. All I pray is that they would go one shot without suffering. I dread it each time, but then that is how it is. I try to give them the best that I can while they are alive.

Hello summer. Like you, I never bring my cats to a vet. But they do get sick, and there was a time last year where my cat Purr was so sick, he was like skin and bones. I think he caught the flu from me and could not eat because his nose was so clogged. But I forced regular vitamin C in some warm water everyday until he was well. I have learned to give my cats regular medicine (in small doses though) in case they have a cold or fever. Also I make sure they have water. Contrary to popular belief, cats drink a lot of water especially if you give them dry cat food. I noticed one brand of kitten food where my kitten Tornado automatically heads for the water bowl as soon as he finishes his food. Its been a while since I last had a pet die. My cats are very healthy right now.

That is so sad. I have 2 cats now but I have had 4 in total. It is hard to see them go, especially so young. When I volunteered at the Humane Society I watched little kittens die in my hands all the time. It was so sad. You would feed them but they just didn't have the strength to carry on. I am sure you did everything you could to keep it well.

yeah, it is really sad as you see pet dying and getting weaker each moment. it is something we are helpless and we can't do any thing to help no matter how we wish they have more days to live.

Hi hotsummer How are you doing my friend? Well I had a toy poodle about 10 years ago. She was more of a child than a dog to us. She had given birth to three litters and did great being a mom. Then one she started moving very slowly around the house. She couldn't get up in the bed or even on the couch. I knew that something was differently wrong. I took her to the vet and they find a tumor in her stomach. At that time I didn't have the money for her to get surgery or even have her put down. I decided to try and treat her myself with home remedies stuff. She did live for another year. We finally had to put her down. I cried like a baby over her and still today I will think about her from time to time and get teary eyed. Animals can be a major part of any family.

It sounds as thought there are plenty of cats for you to be ale to rescue and take into your home. Please..if you are not going to take proper care of an animal, take it to the vet, and get shots for it and feed it properly and keep it away from the other feral cats...just don't take it in. I see so much cruelty where people want an animal but they don't want to look after it properly...they just kill it and throw it it away and get another one. Instead of having the animal desexed, they let it breed and dump the babies so there are even more sick and feral animals. These poor animals depend on us. It would be better if you did something about reducing the cat population in your area.

First of all Hotsummer, why are you shy to bring your kitten to a vet? I think you are not shy, you are just worrying about he fees because it is very expensive when we try to bring our pets to the vet. Even just a little check up is expensive plus the medicine that you will buy for it. Are you from the Philippines too? in the level of middle class to lower class of people here in my country, they do not bring their pets to the vets as they have the believe they can cure them on their own andif not they have to believe that the only way is to wait for it to die. Me, as much as possible if I have money I will never do that. I have so many pets that come into my life and if it is needed to visit a vet I do it. The vet whom has a lot of knowledge can help my pets to survive, but if not the I will have to pray and hoping they will survive. I am not saying you are wrong, I respect what you believe in. It is so hard to lose a pet. They became part of your life , one day you wake up seeing them on the situation you both normally had. It is so hurting to see them ill. And if you can make a miracle you will do it just to make your pets suvive. but we are just human, we cannot control everything. EVen we already put them in vet if they will die, it will still happen. The only thing for us to do is to pray for them and nothing else. When I am losing a pet, I am thinking about them always and I am happy partly because they are no longer ill wherever place they are now. I am just hoping that I have been a very good owner of them , that I gave them nothing but happiness, love, care and safety. I wish we can still have so many pets that deserves our care.

Hi hotsummer, It was two years ago in April that I lost my pet cat, Rusty. We were very close and it was very difficult losing him as we had lived alone for almost three years. So sorry for your loss. Blessings.

That is very sad, I am sure that was very hard to see. Here in the United States most people consider their pets part of their families. My heart broke so hard when we had to put my dog down. She was nearly 15 years old and we had, had her since she was 6 weeks old. But I knew we had to do the right thing for her when she was falling down and not being able to get back up, so with love we took her and had her put to sleep, but it was one of the most painful things I have ever experience in my life. It hurt so bad I felt like someone had punched me in the stomach. It has been over two years and still I am tearing up as I right this and I am certain will have a good cry after I am finished here.

yes i know that in US that pets are taken care for like a real family. and that you hurt so much if you loss them. we feel the same way though here but we are not that showy in showing our sadness when we loss a pet but it does hurt us that as much too.

about 3 years ago I had a sugar glider who I was caring for die. While he was not one of my 3 (Lilo, Nani, and Heber) I was trying to rescue him and he was just a tiny joey. When I lost him I was heart broken. I questioned everything I did. Was there anyway to save him? I admit I still do go over things in my head to see if there was SOME way I could have known. If I had known he was failing to thrive I WOULD have taken him to a vet. Part of having an exotic pet is being willing to go to a rather expensive exotic specialist. If I was not, I would NOT have gliders. I believe taking a pet into your life is a commitment. Regardless of whether that is a little hamster or a cat from the streets or an expensive pedigreed dog, I believe you have the RESPONSIBILITY to give it vet care when needed.

yeah, i think that caring for our pet makes us involve with their lives, in their safety and in their comfort and every thing about. we would wish to do every thing for them. but though here in my country we still don't consider or treat and care for pets like humans do but still we feel for our pets each time they suffer.
8 Nov 09
and exactly what country do you live? hell, perhaps? how dare you take a kitten in and make your decision to NOT care enough for the kitten to get vet attention just because others in your country don't do that. you had the heart to take the kitten in and i'm sure the kitten was happy for a short while, someone who cared enough to love him. YOU are not one of THOSE PEOPLE WHO DON'T CARE. teach them the difference of caring for the poor kittens who are born by no choice of their own. they deserve a chance to live, just like humans. go kick their butts, honey, and teach them love is for all creatures.
