private christian school or public school for your children

if you can/could afford the choice of sending your child to a public school or a private christian school, which would you do?my 2 oldest used to go to public school, about 3 years ago i guess now and i say there were approx. 35-40 kids in each class...where does the teacher find time to have one on one time to help each student?they don't, even with teacher aides, you can't help every student...both my oldest kids were making "b/c" average grades. i found a local private christian school, very affordable, and enrolled them there.the very first week they were "a" average students!my youngest started last year, k-5 at age 4 and has also been a straight "a" student..no particular religion is taught, but bible study is part of the studies...with everything happening in public schools these days, for me,there is no amount of money that would have me put mine back in public schools..

Actually my two sons go to a public school and they have been doing great. But I think it depends on the area you live in. Their school does not have that kind of a ratio. Their biggest class size so far has been 16 kids and that was just one year.

yes, it does depend on the area you live in.we are in a community that only has one elementary school, one middle school and one high school avail. on this side of county, so everyone's children goes...it sounds like your children are going to a good school, especially if the classes are so small.in my kids school, there are only 25 students in the whole school...lol...

there have been many petitions sent to our governor on how it seems our schools get ignored by the state representatives...we have tried to have taxes raised for our school system, however noone wants to pay more in school tax so nothing is able to be done to correct the situation...many people talk, but don't walk the walk in this community...

It also has to do with your tax base as well as location. Schools that get a lot of tax money has a lot more to work with. Having more money means you can hire more teachers or even build biggers schools to handle the over flow of kids. Think of this the next time a school tax levi is voted on in your area.

Hi It depends on the public school. Not all public schools are bad and not every private school is good. With my husband's job we move every three or four years so I have had ample opportunity to check out different school systems. We have had friends who would not put their children in public school and either home schooled or sent them to private christian school.I have had family members do the same. Some got a great education in the private school while some family members got messed over. We kept ours in public school and all of our girls got excellent grades and we were fortunate that many of the teachers in the schools they attended were Christians. Check out your school of choice and make sure it is accredited. That is what happened to my brother's family. They choose a Christian school that was not accredited and only earned certificates of attendance upon finishing school. They had to get a GED certificate to get any type of proper job or even join the military. They eventually allowed their last two sons to go to public school which was the best thing that could have happened to them. Don't lump all public schools together or all private schools either. Just make sure you check out the school you choose and are comfortable with the type of education your child is getting. By the way I'm a pastors wife so I don't have a beef against educating your child in non public school ways. I just don't like it when people say every public school is bad and you can't get an education there.

i apologize if i gave you the wrong impression. i do not think that all public schools are bad, alot are very good schools, as i said on another comment, it all depends on your location.there are good and bad schools in both catagories...it all depends on where you live.in my case though, the public school system is very poor, many petitions have been sent to the governor about our school system, but no responses..the school my kids go to is accredited, and is rated one of the best private schools worldwide...

I'm glad you found a great school for your kids. My husband and I often discussed the issue of schools of whetehr we should private schoold them or homeschool them. Our thoughts were if it was bad at the local public school we would probably opt for home schooling at least while they were young. But then you have to really like to teach in order for your kids to get a good education that way. Its not for everyone and I'm glad there are decent private schools out there. Just wish it didn't cost an arm and a leg to attend them.

i was so lucky to have went to both. ok... if you're interested in the grades, a private is best... they take care of you... well, since you're paying for it. and especially if it's co-ed, you'll have some fun. now, a public school... well, if it's in a good area it can be cool. what does suck is if it's not, and that could really suck big time. but do what any curious person would... go see both kinds of schools before you make up your mind... i mean c'mon. it's not that difficult. it's one day.

i agree...your child's future is based upon their education. if you live in an area where the public schools are good, then that is a good choice.however if your public schools are anything like the ones close to me...your best bet is home schooling your children or find a private school....

My children will go to public school. My husband wouldn't have it any other way. he wants them to go to the school that he graduated from.

My son will be taught at public school. we are not a Christian family so it would be hypocritical for us to send our son to a Christian school. I like the level of education at a private school, if I could find one that is not a religion influenced private school I would probably send him there instead of public.

well i agree with you in that aspect, if not a christian family, a christian private school wouldn't be a choice for you.but in all, you would prefer a private school over public?

Yes I really think I would. There just seems to be a better focus on education at private schools. The teachers make more money and as a result are more into their jobs.

i agree.we have had a better "educational experience" by putting our children in a private school.the teachers are more into their jobs, and with this school, they don't go by what grade level you are in what studies you have, they go by what academic level you are.my son for example is in 3rd grade, does 4th grade math and 5th grade english...instead of being challenged on something that comes easy for the child, they strive in keeping them on their toes..lol...also, if they get their assigned work done for the week by thursday, they don't have to go on friday!

Since we're a Christian family, I prefer private school if ever we have a money. My daughter is turning 2 next year and I like her to be enrolled in a private school. I have nothing against public school since I've graduated on a public schools during my elementary and secondary days. I just believed that private schools teaches our kids more advance than public schools do. And there are too many kids enrolled on a public school so if ever we have a money to pay private schools, why not?!

thank you for your comment. i also graduated from public school, so i have nothing completely against them. but if you think about it, many of them are over crowded and students can't get as much attn. as they can in a private school....before i offend anyone, this all depends on the area you live in, not saying all public schools have this problem, but it is a growing problem in many communities...finding the school my children go to now was a blessing. there are only 23-25 students in entire school, giving each student more one on one time with the teacher.they also go by the ace program/pace books so students can go at their pace, setting their own goals and if they get the required work done for the week by thursday, they don't have to attend friday classes! plus, many schools like this i have seen charge up to $600. a month per student, giving a discount for the second child + per family...being a blessing, we pay $150. for my son and $125. a month for each of my 2 daughters, $400. a month x 10 months...couldn't beat that!....

I am not a christian anymore. My husband is and he takes the kids to sunday school only. To put my kids in a Christian based school for me just would not work. I like the public school they are in. My kids are doing great and I dont want to interupt there learning habbits they have already started.

Thats my dilemma. I like the idea of private schools but we are not a Christian family, or anything close to being Christian. Putting our son in a Christian school would be ridiculous.

Mine are in a good public school. As long as it's a good school I don't mind. Otherwise, I would choose private.

Our private school is our homeschool. We have done so for 15 yrs and it is a great way to teach your children. I stayed home for the first 12 years and now work part time. It works out really well. Class size is important. Dedicated teachers are too!
