When you argue with someone do you usually "win"? Do you usually have facts to back up your opinion or do you have to hesitate and think of what your going to say next? For me I would say I am pretty good at arguing/debating. My comebacks usually just pop into my head and I say them. I never really hesitate in an argument/debate, to e it's a sign of weakness, and it gives a chance to your oponent to call you out. What about you? Are you a good arguer/debator?

I am not a good arguer at all. Though I usually have so much to say inside my mind, I am not good at talking. I tend to not sound credible because I easily shiver and my voice is really weak. I think as a debator, you have to be very confident to make people believe you. Lol. You should also have a very consistent and firm voice, which I don't since my voice always squeek. hehe. Also, I notice that whenever I am in a middle of a debate or argument, when I try to make my voice louder just so people can hear me, my tears can't help but falling even though I never wanted to cry. Weird, but true.

Yes I don't like to make my voice very loud in a debate/argument. It can make me loose my voice and i do not like that very much.lol. You don't have to be very loud to win an argument anyway. You just have to have quick comebacks and facts in my opinion.

Yeah but that's a good way to scare your opponent lol.. I naturally have soft voice so I really struggle even when plainly communicating. I really hate it when we used to have class debates (or even class presentations/reporting), the teacher and my classmates can't hear my voice so they want me to speak louder but everytime I try to, i end up squeaking and sometimes they wonder if I were crying..hehe

It's not about scaring your oponent lol. It's just pretty much about showing them that your not dumb, and you have a backbone.Aww I'm sorr y about what happened to you in school, that was mean of them to do if they already knew you were shy.

When the situation calls for it, i am a good debator. I was even recruited to be on the debate team in High School and many people told me I should be a lawyer. If put in a situation where I feel like I have to defend my opinions or argue to get a point across, I will. If it's just stuff here on mylot, I let it go.

Yes I try to make everything not an arguement also. Especially on mylot I won't argue because these are people I don't even know and don't plan on meeting. So there would really be no point in arguing with them. It would be like arguing with the computer. Are you a lawyer?

haha "It would be like arguing with the computer." - exactly. I'm not a lawyer. Actually, I'm a business executive. Much of what I do revolves around negotiations so that's where my persuasion abilities come in. However, I am considering taking up law school somewhere along the way.

Hello lala501, i am no good at these sort of stuff. I've always had a fear of public speaking. Even during my time at school, delivering speeches, i would always hesitate to say particular words. When ever arguing, i am always stumped on come back and words. I guess i don't have the confidence for public speaking and arguing.

Yes I too do not like public speaking. I like to be one on one when arguing/debating, but if the situation calls for it then I have to fake it until I make it.lol. I will just pretend like there is no one there, even if there is a lot of people there.

Hi! If it's up to me, I'll say I'm not a good debater/arguer. But a lot of my friends say that I am a good one, but I usually hesitate when joining debates, thinking I"m not witty enough. I never day anything that's irrelevant to the topic and something that isn't backed up by my researches. But to say the very least, I make a pretty good researcher! Tell me what to research about, and I'll whip up a pretty wicked research printed out back to back in a couple of pages, complete with highlights of the discussion!

Wow about you did very good in school, with how good you are at research and such, you don't have to be extremly witty to win an argument/debate you just have to know what your talking about.lol.

I love argumentation and debate when I was a lot younger and I would accept any topic given a short time for notice. As I look back now, I can say I have won so many arguments but lose many friends too in the process. Very few people even amongst friends are not happy in the idea of losing. So, it doesn't matter really to me now, it they insist on their views regardless of a opposite and equally clear perspective, then so be it.

I was raised in a family that enjoyed a good argument/debate but i married into a family that considered everything personally and did not enjoy any one who argued. So I am sadly very out of touch with this type of communication amoung each other.

Well, I am actually good sometimes and bad sometimes. In some occasions when I am in a debate I might be in the mood and really ready to let out what I'm thinking. Sometimes, though, I will not be in such great condition and I will not have enough energy to argue. Another factor would be how well I know the topic. I know more about some things then I do about others, so when I enter a debate about something I know about I will definitely be victorious. But other times I do not have enough evidence and I will hesitate, thinking about what to say. In the end, I would just say that I can be a good arguer some times but lose in other times. I am never really sure what the outcome would be. . .

Yes you should always argue/debate about something that you know very much about, that way you are almost surely to win because you have all the facts. Then all you have to do is say them in the right way so that your opponent can't use anything against you.

No, not really. I am a very nervous person in real life and I won't be able to say anything when I'm unprepared. But when it comes to online forums, I can control my self better because I always have time to think of what I'm going to say. However, I do not debate about things I can't relate to.

I like to think that i'm a good debater. I follow my word with logic. Also I debate only on those topic that I have knowledge. That's a big difference between debate and argument. An argument can be without any logic.

It depends on what I'm debating. If I'm really passionate about the topic and know my facts, then I will keep going until I "win" or the other person wants to stop. If I don't feel like I have the whole story, then I slip into "discussion mode" and don't really care whether I win the argument or not. I like to choose my battles. :P

lol. Yes you should always choose your battles, or else there would be really no chance of winning. what do you mean by discussion mode?
