Hello I am Sarah and I'm American and I love ,love hockey. But here in the States, hockey isn't covered as much as football and baseball and basketball. And when it gets press,it is because of a bad hit or a damn good fight.so most Yanks Only think hockey is boxing on ice. If more Americans could see a real good game ,with a goals and checks and a fight, they may like it . But since the strike ESPN doesn't carry any games. So sports fans don't get exposed to hockey. The sad part is I don't see it ever changing.

I agree that what is lacking is TV exposure. And that if ever hockey gets into a major network, it's because something terribly bad happened on the ice (remember Bertuzzi?)
I'm not sure how great Versus is, but hopefully if they can improve marketing and improve exposure, they can also improve perception of hockey.

Oh yes I remember . Now that A$$hole is on my Wings. Evertime I see his #44 ,I still ask why would the Red Wings sign him? but I have to say he has behaved so far.Time will tell.

In my opinion, it is because there are not as easily identifyable stars in hockey. They all wear the helmets, the best players on ice about a third of the time. Football is similar, but the quarterbacks, halfbacks and few receivers get all the press, so they are a big better known.

Hi goalieboy66, I don't think "most" people don't like hockey in the USA but since the NHL also has teams from Canada, I think its regional. For example when I travel further south and south west, NASCAR is huge in those areas and further north, Chicago (Blackhawks), Detroit (Red Wings),Minnesota (Wilds) Edmonton (Oilers), Calgary (Flames) are so much into hockey because of the weather, the kids grow up playing ice hockey and into becoming fans of their team. That's not to say there aren't hockey fans everywhere. I went to a game in Tampa (Panthers) and the arena had a lot of fans (not like it would be in Philadelphia but still there were fans there) I love my Philadelphia Flyers. Football seems to be a sport that can be played in any kind of weather so more universal.

There are enough hockey fans around, but football in general are more popular. But you will find a hockey fan is much more loyal to their teams.
