Twilight- Literature or Overrated?

I can't wrap my mind around why Twilight became such a hit. I mean, the work itself is not smaching. The book only have "perfect" characters that attacts people, especially girls, to fantasize. Comparing to Stenphenie Meyer's other works, such as the Host, Twilight seems to be deprived of any plot or literary richness. Why is it so popular?
Another book that was a hit is Harry Potter. I can understand that one because it is beautifully written, but Twilight?
What make Twilight so special?

Twilight became popular due to the same reasons Lil' Wayne got big. Sadly, many many people like simple, watered-down, empty content. I myself have never read these books, nor watched the movie. I do see the kinds of people who are into them though, and that alone allows me to determine what kind of trash lies in the pages of this series. Twilight is just another pop image for people to obsess over, a fad that I am praying will soon die out.

I don't know. I myself am not that big of a fan of the Twilight Saga. It takes four whole books just to say that a human and vampire fell in love.
Wow?
I don't think Twilight is so special. But again, I don't get anyone else's mind except my own. Maybe the typical love story combined with the modern image of wicked, lovestruck vampires is just the twist to the reader's interest. But I think it is kind of getting overrated because Twilight is the first book that I've read about vampires, and now all the shelves in bookstores are filled with vampire-related junk.

And tv shows as well.
A lot more vampire stories appeared, like True Blood and Vampire diaries.
