Guys, have you heard about Efren Penaflorida? He is a filipino nominee for CNN hero of the year. He goes in the streets with a push cart loaded with books, pens, etc and teaches street children to read and write. Read more about it on CNN's website. You may also cast your vote.

Of course, I agree with you that every nominee is worth winning but of course, we should patronize our fellow Pinoy. He does great in helping poor kids.

The guys dedication is amazing. We could use a lot more Filipinos to be like him. Personally, I can never imagine myself doing so much for others. It's an eye-opener for me, and hopefully for everyone as well. Let's not just admire him, we need to do something as well. Even the little things, the do add up. Let's make him an inspiration. All the best to Efren Penaflorida. Good Bless him, and all of us.

Not anyone would do this thing. And that's what makes him one of a kind. He is indeed an inspiration. All we can do right now is to vote for him.

I though he already won in the voting. I am quite happy with what had happened to him. It seems that his hardwork is paying off and is being noticed by many even outside of the country. I think he deserves to win that title in CNN since his passion is something different from the rest and is unique idea that helps the poor and underprivileged children who cannot afford to educate themselves.

Yup, I've heard about him already and I am really inspired by him. I am a teacher and I feel ashamed knowing there are some teachers out there whose goal is to have their salary not caring whether the students were able to understand or not while he, Efren, is out on the street teaching children using his own money and not asking for anything in return. It is not his job to teach them but he do it with a good heart. I wish everyone can see the lesson he's trying to teach us. I will cast my vote for him and whether he loses or not, he is already a hero for me.

He is truly an inspiration. When I saw him on tv and learned about his heroic works and his nomination, I immediately casted my vote on CNN website. You don't have to be ashamed because you are also a hero and a model to your students. Teachers are our foundation in whatever we become in the future.

Actually, I already started a similar discussion a few days ago but I am glad that more Filipinos are spreading this good news. I already voted for him and still am, since we can vote as many times as we can. Voting will end on Nov 19 so we still have a lot of time. Here is the link to his story and how to vote for him - http://angelcuala.blogspot.com/2009/10/vote-efren-penaflorida-jr-for-1st.html

I am so happy about our fellow Filipino being nominated for CNN hero of the year. I have seen him on Larry King as well and I am so proud of him. His advocacy towards youth and education is one of a kind. I already casted my vote awhile ago and I hope we wins the title.

True. He is one of a kind. Doing this job...walking in the streets with a cart to help children learn how to read and write isn't an easy thing to do. I am proud of him...very ,very proud.

He was featured in the news just recently and my hats off to him. I sure there are a lot of people out there who go beyond their means to make a difference. In the case of Efren, It also shows the dismal state of education that we have in this country. Although Efren was able to fill a gap there's just no way a cart can replace what it feels for a child to wake up everyday and prepare to go to school, learn and have fun with their classmates. I hope, Efren would serve an inspiration if not a challenge to us all to make education a priority. Cheers!
