Many of us have blogs. How do you feel about your blogs? Do you think your blog is a successful blog?
I have two little blogs, hardly any reader, and hardly any earning. However, I considered my blogs as successful blogs, because they have my heart and soul. Even when I rewrite PLR content, it's a major rewrite, so that the result is my uniquely lousy style of writing, and the rewritten content reflects my viewpoints and opinion.
As long as I enjoy blogging as much as eating and sleeping, I consider my blogs as successful.
what about you? how do you define a successful blog?

I think a successful blog is an active blog. When someone has passion and update their blogs regularly, that shows that they are truly enjoying it. When they enjoy it, the readers and visitors will definitely enjoy coming in too and might bookmark the blog site. This is more valuable than say, active promotion of their blogs. Because active traffic means that the users are there for a reason, bookmarking the blog because they enjoy reading.
That is one of the best methods ever. And when the blogger sees an active rise in the number of visitors, he/she feels so happy because it feels like a recognition to have your stuff being read regularly. You are right, it doesn't necessarily have to equate to very good earnings. As long as the person enjoy blogging, and do it from their heart and soul, it's good enough already. I have never regretted finding blogging and my only wish was I had found this passion sooner.

That's such a genius way. I think I wanna do that too, Scheng. Maybe I can join you on this commenting quest. By the way, when they comment in your blog, do they use their Hubpages id or their blog id say from blogger or something?
I've always known that Hubpages is good for back-links, but normally I thought it's just leaving a few sentences from the blog post and linking back to our blog. Didn't know that your method is very useful. That means a lot to me, thanks for sharing it, Scheng..
The guys from Hubpages really amaze me too with their SEO knowledge and whatnot. I feel like such an amateur there..

Hi Zed, same here, i wish I start blogging much earlier.
Those bloggers making 6 digits income per year are very passionate about blogging, and they blog even when traffic is minimum during the first two years.
Most people who want to make money from blogging do not even last three months, much less to blog for two years without much monetary benefits.
I just discover that hubpages is such a good place for backlinking. I dont use my hubpages login to make comments, I use my blog url to make comments, so that I can provide extra backlinks to my blogs. Since I enjoy reading the hubs there, I might as well make full use of it.
Those hub writers are really expert. They know what I'm doing, so they follow the link to my blog, leave a comment to make it a two-ways link, and to let me know that they allow my link to stay on their hubs.

One day, perhaps, when the computers have made a tally of all the blogs and the social scientists have defined the parameters of what a successful blog is, then we can probably say our blogs are successful, or not, ha ha. But a blog is a web log. That means something personal or private that had been made public through the net. People might come to read your blog and appreciate it but not comment on it. I just recently learned that my daughter's friend had been reading my blogs. And she had been touched by some of the stories I related. She never commented though. She just told my daughter about it. Knowing that I was able to relate to someone is success enough for me.

haha Gina, when you talk about your pregnancy and baby, you have endless things to talk about!
Even a pet owner can talk non-stop about his or her pet, and a car owner can talk hours about the car.
The best part about blogging is that nobody going to pick fault with my grammar and rejects my writings.

I think the measure of a blog's success depends on what your goal is when you start it. If you are hoping to make money from it then that is the measure because you can see in a monetary sense how successful it is. If your goal is to publish information or have a forum for your own writing then the measure of success in how much time you spend doing what you wanted to do.

Very interesting. I am going to have to start placing more links! I almost have enough articles on specific topics to start doing summaries for hubpages where I can add a "more..." link to the articles.

I consider my blogs successful because I enjoy them, and the few who do read them also enjoy what is imparted on them. I also love reading numerous blogs by others.
Success, to me, means many things, above all, do you love doing what you're doing?

I so agree. I read somewhere and they say meta tags are like pretty much useless now. I am trying to grasp all these modern knowledge of SEO and whatnot, but sometimes it gets so boring for me. Like I just want to write happily and then having some traffic to discover it without doing all those keywords considerations and whatnot. LOL..but some days, my mood gets better and I start doing everything diligently.

Hi karen, blogging is so enjoyable that I wonder why I dont start earlier. The whole thing about seo is perfect nuisance, really restrictive of the way I used to write.
Anyway just have to practice seo so that more people can enjoy my blogs. I dont intend my blogs to have narrow niche, I prefer to write what I want and how I feel about anything.

The rules on SEO keep changing. Meta tags, for instance, no longer carry as much impact as they used to.
I also have a blog that is niche-less!

Hi Scheng. Congratulation for you. I do have blog but I think no one have read it before. For me, I think to define a successful blog, it should nice design, interest content, and the most important is many people agree that the blog are good and have the interest to come again. Haha I fail to do that, but I will continue to learn and enjoy the blogging life. Have a nice day for you.

I never really thought of a blog as successful or not.
Hmm... interesting.
Now that you got me thinking, I think a successful blog is one that give out information that is useful. And readers following that information, and then achieving similar or better results than before they read my blog, then that is a successful blog!

haha, I think you can start a blog teaching people how to bully your boss. That will definitely become very popular.
Or how to control your nagging wife. I guess you have to think of all the nasty tricks to help the readers.
Maybe you get a chance to take photo with our PM for the excellent advice from blogging.

i have three blogs. they are attracting good traffic, but not enough to make a decent extra income for me. i think that income is not a measurement of success for a blog. i think it should be influence on the readers. when i receive comments that they like my blog and enabled them to do something or inspired them to act, then that is a successful blog for me. i am still aspiring to have such a blog. i am building mine to be like that.

Hi Mensab, I agree that income is not a good measurement of successful blog. Many bloggers are so passionate about blogging, and they make 6 digit income from blogging after years of hard work.
I read a blog post by shoemoney just now, he quoted John Chow as saying that he will blog at an average of 2.8 posts per day, regardless of readers or no reader, money or no money.

I am quite attached with my blog, but I have been slacking on updating my blog for the past few weeks and just recently trying to post entries regularly. I think a really successful blog has many followers, readers, unique visitors and many people will link back to your blog unless you only write for yourself and you feel content with what you have done, then, it's also a self-achievement in blogging. It means it depends on which direction you want your blog to be.

Hi Corry, my blogs are still rather new, less than one year old.
At this stage, I have to update on daily basis or at least once in two days. I think traffic will definitely stop if I stop updating and stop to get backlinks. Right now most of the backlinks are my efforts in commenting on other blogs and forum discussions.

My blog is collecting dust. I had one years ago but I don't update it any longer. It was more of an online journal. At the time, monetizing on blogs wasn't widespread yet. I don't presently have an active blog right now but I'm thinking of creating a website for something.

My blog is in a coma, lol! I had the best of intentions but I have a time management issue and just never get around to posting to it. I guess I need to figure out how to do simple and frequent posts and then graduate to less frequent longer SEO posts.

haha Marrie, it's surprising that many people love to read about ranting and random thoughts.
Maybe it makes them feel better, that someone is going through the same thing. if I had started blogging when I suffered from wisdom tooth, I bet I would have 100 posts complaining about toothache.

Hi Jayzelle, the problem is "benefits" in what way. To be very frank, many top blogs have more than a hundred comments per post, most of the comments are from bloggers who want to get backlink.
That is not really the best form of "benefits". Even when I have a post reflecting on real estate in Singapore, one real estate agent comments and link to his property website. That is not the kind of benefit I want. However, I dont mind having someone making use of my blogs to get backlinks.

Maybe the benefit is in the information you are sharing. For instance if you gave financial advice on how to become better financially educated to make better investment decisiions many people might benefit from this.

A blog would be tag as successful if its high in traffic and if the visitor would be a regular reader. Of course the blog should be interesting in order for the reader to be a constant reader.

Is it just me or does no one reply to blogging section blogs? because I don't have anyone replying to my thread at all like this one...
anyway, how do I define a successful blog? Well, unlike you, I believe that a blog should have readers, even if it has crappy and bad content. The reason why I say this is because the only reason why you are creating a public blog is so that people can view your blog. If no one comes to see what you have got to share, then it is a failure.
If you have bad and crappy content and there are still readers, then obviously your content isn't as bad as you thought. :P Currently, my blog is a failure, but I am hoping that it will be successful one day. :)

Hi Nameless, it's actually quite easier to get readers from socialnetworking, what is difficult is to get readers from search engines.
If your blog is quite new, you have to rely on marketing effort to attract readers, plus daily updating, otherwise nobody even knows the existence of your blogs.

When it comes to the definition of a successful blog, it seems that there are no apparent answers to your question.
For most bloggers, I think making money is the main motivation for blogging, so earning much more money may mean how successful a blog is. Of course, high ranking, huge traffic and great recognition are all the definition of successful blogs.
In my opinion, successfull blogs should be blogs that are able to change the life of their readers. What's more, a successful blog means that it can bring the visitors a whole feeling of life and help them enjoy a better life.

Hi Getbrowser, I agree with your definition of successful blogs.
I think it is very stressful to blog for money, if the blogger hates to write. It's very tough to maintain a blog, do all the backlining if the interest in blogging is not there.
it's never a good idea to get free articles from article directory for all the blog posts. The blog will never kick off.
