Hi friends.. Its a big headache for me today.. There is some public function going on the next street near to my office.. They have put on songs on a loud speaker from morning 10 AM and I think those people will switch it off only after 10PM today night.. Have you got any such experience? How does Law in your place acts against Loud speakers in street? What are your opinions about this? please discuss with me..

Hi Chaitra
I too agree that it is such a big nuissance. When I was a small girl, we used to live in the quarters. And so many functions, especially marriages happens every alternate week and the people belongs to poorer sections, simply put on songs on a loud speaker with full volume for 2 days. When we are having our exams, anybody is sick in our family will feel like stopping that function.

Hi Chaitra!
I simply dislike the sound of Loud speakers blarring out loud music or surmons. If anybody wants to listen to lour music or surmons, they should listen to the same without using Loud speakers, what it is the fun in irritating and making others feel uncomfortable. I just cannot bear the sound of Loud speakers or drum beats (going loudly). Sometimes it so happen that in are our are functions go on till midnight and Loud speaker keep running and running and one cannot get a good night's sleep. Some people are so callous and indifferent that they don't bother about others.
An excellent post!

I agree with you Chaitra. Also, there must be some stringent laws so that menance of Loud speakers could be curbed. Production of loud speakers should be banned and it should not be permissible to play it at a public place.

Yes, I would find that loud speakers on the street irritating me if I was trying to have a relaxing day in my garden for instance, or if I was trying to concentrate and the noise was penetrating my home.
If I was part of a carnival or something outside, then they probably wouldn't bother me and would probably add to the excitement of the event.
If it was late at night, it would be irritating, depending on what time it was. If it was after 10pm, then I think that such noise ought to be stopped, because not everybody in the neighbourhood would want to listen to it. - Derek

Hi chaitra,
It is not annoying me presently. Earlier we stayed near a temple. Nearby temple there was a hall for marriage and other functions. If there is any devotional function they are playing the loud speakers in night and were much disturbing.
Your discussion reminds me in the olden days of native place, where there is a political party meeting the loud speakers are running with party songs. It actually disturbing much on students they can’t concentrate their studies well because of its loud voice. Law is there and for playing loud speakers, people need permission from nearby police station. There is some restrictions on time too. But the Law is meant for violating.

There are certain times that streets in Cebu are surrounded by a lot of sound systems. This is specially when the city is celbrating the Sinulog Festival, which is a street dancing competition, etc. So aside of loud speakers playing, there are also live bands accompanying the dancers. This is not prohibited at that times, as those are days to celebrate.
But in some places here, I think you have to apply for permits, to install loud speaker system along the streets.
Even in fiesta celebrations, street discos should be made only possible if allowed by the city administration.
I remember when I was in Manila, while studying in one of the universities there, there is a place known as Raon Street, which is the most popular place there, where electronics items all being sold in almost all the stores there.
Loud speakers are everywhere. You can't understand the sounds they are playing. Almost every store have their own speakers on the sidewalk. That is the most irritating place in Manila that I can say, for people who don't like or do not understand the heart and soul of electronics and communications engineering.

Hi Chaitra
I had some experience with it.. I had bad neighboord with that loud trance/dance music, so first time I fight with him(with words I mean), then I asked police to help but.. Nothing :(. So I fight with him and now it over. But in your situation.. I guess.. Try to ask them, or ask for police help. :)

Hi Friend.. In my case its a public function.. the organizers would have taken permission before organizing function.. but for high volume they will break the rules because they get support from political parties.. Any way its only for one day so need to tolerate..

The law does have provisions for loudspeakers in my city Kolkata but I really don’t know how effective that is. There’s some ceiling on the decibel level and also the timings and if there’s some major exams going on (board exams etc), then I believe loudspeakers are not allowed. However, I feel that imposing a time limit or decibel limit actually defeats the entire purpose of having a loudspeaker. Loudspeakers are used to create the maximum impact on the people and if they are not loud enough or don’t play throughout the day, then the purpose is lost…that is way I think organizations of public functions flout the rules so often.
Personally, loudspeakers give me the headache (no less), especially during festivals when you cant really protest yet you have to tolerate them throughout the day and at least till 10pm at night.

Loudspeakers at night irritates me also a lot. In in the area that I live in the loudspeakers do not go off at 10 pm but continue way past midnight. Complaining to the cops agains them also does not serve any purpose. During festivals this goes on for 8-10 days at a stretch and we cannot do anything about it.

I hate people who blare their music all the time. Everyone has a different taste in their music and some people don't like what you do...so don't force it on them!!!! I have my music loud sometimes, I won't lie, but loud to me is to where you might be able to hear it if you were standing beside my car. The car next to me can't hear it and in my home - no way. I've never had a complaint of my music being too loud and I plan to keep it that way.

Yes of course, loud speakers in the streets irritates me a lot and i get head ache often. When ever people put on the loud speakers i would be the first person to oppose that and make them to lower the volume. There is a Tamil community temple near my home where they don't even care for the warnings and one fine day I had to raise a complaint on that issue.

[b]Oh, boy does it ever annoy me! I hate it when they drown out normal speech, or my radio or TV! I especially hate those "rolling thunder" cars with speakers that fill the back seat, that are so loud they actually rattle my walls & windows, & thump up through my floor...& WHY do these idiots think everyone must enjoy the same crappy "music" they like?? Not to mention the vile "lyrics" in some of the...um...music....
Once, though, I was very amused at one particular ice cream truck. They'd often run by our Church on Sunday morning, but as there weren't many kids in the immediate area, they'd move on soon enough.
One Sunday, however, our little choir (not as tuneful as we should be, perhaps, at our best...) were in the middle of a song, & along comes the IC truck, & stops! Right next to our little building, & he stays, & stays, & stays...all the while letting his silly "kid music" twitter on, 'til we couldn't hear ourselves & could not find the right key! I think one deacon was about to go out & politely ask him to at least shut off his speaker, when the truck suddenly departed, which enabled us to hear what an awful racket we were making! Ack!
Even then, it broke us all up it was so funny.
Most cities, at least, have decibel ordinances. They give you an acceptable maximum, over which you can't legally publicly broadcast. This is to prevent deafness, & disturbance of the peace. Does the law where you are have such a rule?

Where I live it tends to be very quiet. However, there will be the odd party here and there and the music blares away and it can be annoying at times but I realise that I have to show a fair amount of tolerance! The people that live in our area have been nice about the whole thing. I remember the last time this happened, everyone received a little note in the letter box saying that a party was going to be held and that the noise would be extremely loud. We were prepared for this and they were very considerate. Occasionally a street party will be held by a few neighbours but everyone is prepared well in advance for that. Andrew

Yes sometimes loud speakers from neighbors iretates me, What am worried about are my children who still have to wake up early for their jobs. My daughter is a teacher and every night she has paperworks , she would be uneasy if there are loud speakers nearby.

Hi yes.. if it is on in the night then difficult to sleep and then very difficult to wake up early morning and get ready and go for work.. Specially those who are in teaching profession needs more concentration while doing paper works.. but because of huge noise we cant get proper concentration on what we are doing..

Hi chaitra001. How are you..? It is really a disturbance to neighbours who ever it may be.. institutions, houses, library, any other public places etc. What ever function or celebration is conducted I do not see it important to play loud speaker causing nusance to the others. It is a function, celebration for a particular people and not for all. Therefore such a day should be celebrated within them only and in no way it should be disturbance to others. It should be stopped even by LAW.
Thanks for giving opportunity to share my views.
WITH BEST WISHES.

Loud noise irritates me regardless whether it may be a good song or not. Too much of it becomes noise instead of music. I prefer tranquility but depending on the mood and place, I sometimes like party music too but definitely not loud music on streets and neighbors' houses :)
