Election Last Week

Last Tuesday was an election day. How many of you went to the polls? In my home town, the districts ranged from an 18% to just over 25% showing in the 4 precincts. The one I live in was 23.4%. That is of registered voters. The borough has 3,305 residents in the 2000 census, with 1,897 registered voters. 421 came out last week to vote for state and county judges, borough mayor and council, and various other county and local officials. That's just over 22%. That's about what the county I live in ended up with, 22.3%. I know New Jersey with it's govenor's race probably had a larger turnout, and probably some other states, with state wide elections like that did. That brings up the question, when do you come out to vote, just the Presidential election ever 4 years, the Senator elections 2 out of 3 even years, the State Representative elections every 2 years? Or do you go out to vote every year, for local, county, and smaller state elections?

I vote in nearly every election, local state and national. As much as I have harped and pounded on it with my daughters as they were growing up, they are now here on election day doing the same thing to me, so I have no choice really, lol. It was an abysmal turn out to say the least from what I understand, even in the states that had gubenitorial elections.

I usually vote in every election but sometimes there just isn't anything important going on or any important offices up for election. That was pretty much the case in my area last week so for the first time in many years I didn't vote! SHAME ON ME, I know that, but there really wasn't any point to it locally this time. However, I've NEVER skipped an election when the President, the governor, a state or U.S. Senate or state or local representative were on the ballot. I guess I should become just a conscientious about the local mayor and borough council elections but I'm afraid they're really all the same and have been for as long as I can remember! Annie
